Is my DS well enough for a baby & toddler group?

All the family have had colds off and on for it seems like weeks now. My 11month DS is still snotty, but seemed happy and well in himself the last 3 or 4 days, and we have been out and about again.

He's usually a good sleeper, but last night he tossed and turned for a while, then woke up totally at about 3am. He was alert and up and about wanting to play for about an hour. Eventually tiredness kicked in, but he just wouldn't sleep, he tossed and turned when put to bed, half fell asleep in strange positions on the floor after I gave in and let him up again, but it was about another hour before he actually settled. He's then been tossing and turning for most of the rest of the night. At no point did he seem actually distressed (except when I tried to make him stay in bed!) but something was definitely awry. This is really unusual behaviour for him.

Now, he's sleeping soundly. (He would usually have been up at least an hour ago).

We're meant to be going to a toddler group in an hour. Normally I would cancel and let him sleep it off, but I've had a lot on this week, and it's been a pretty boring week for him so far with no activities actually for him except one trip to the park so I really do want to take him. Also I have friends there I'd really like to see.

WWYD? Would you take him anyway so we've done at least one nice thing this week, and he can always sleep in the buggy in a quiet corner if he's really not up for it when we get there, or would you let the poor little mite sleep it off?

(Sorry for the long post!)

my dd was like that last night up most of the night tossing and turning, up and down but nothing wrong with her she slept longer this morning but is happy so if he wakes up and is fine i would go.

If you have to ask the question then you probably already know the answer - no I wouldn't take him out.

Thanks for your lightening replies

mo3g, sound advice, I suspect when he actually does wake up he'll be fine - only it's getting on for the time we'd need to leave, and it looks like I'd have to actually wake him up to go, which I'm not keen to do.

jelliebelly that's a very definite decision! (good to have straight answers!) As well as worrying about his health, I'm also concerned that when he does eventually wake up he could well be fine, have missed his only chance for a nice day out this week and his bedtime could be totally messed up for days. So I'm genuinely not sure what's the right thing.

Don't think I have it in my heart to wake him though (if he's half as tired as me he's knackered!) so think I'll get myself ready just in case, and see what he's like if he wakes up in time.
