Permanent Tooth "Erupted" but not lost any Milk Teeth

Ds (6yo) discovered tonight that his first adult tooth is coming through (bottom right) but he hasn't lost any of his milk teeth. It's coming through about 5mm behind his other teeth.
Obviously I need find a dentist, register him and take him (!), but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone else has had experience of this?

they get their first adult molars around the age of 6 but dont lose any baby teeth to get them - they are in addition to the other teeth.

sorry, do you mean it is coming in behind the existing front tooth? This happened with dd but the baby teeth at the front did still come out by themselves

This happened to DD too around the same age, the dentist said it was quite common and eventually the adult tooth will knock the baby tooth out (and it did) It happened with both her bottoms but never caused any problems at all.

I had this with all of my front teeth, my milks everntually had to be pulled by the dentist - they just weren't coming out on their own!

Apparently that's not very common though, so your sons' should just come out of their own accord. If it goes on for a while though, it might be best to visit the dentist to get their opinion

Thanks for your opinions. Got him an appointment for next week. He's horrified at the thought. Have said that they'll probably just look and say "how interesting". (Shall cross my fingers that what you've all said come's to pass without any tooth pulling!) Will feel happier with a professional opinion too.

This has happened with pretty much all the front teeth for both dc. They eventually loosen and displace the milk one and mvoe forwards.

Don't worry, it'll sort itself out, happened with one of my DS's front tooth and its fine now.
