One hot red cheek but not teething

Ds1 is 3.4 and today had one bright red hot cheek while the other was cold. It had calmed down by this evening but just wondering what this might have been, as he has got all his teeth. He didn't have much of an appetite today either and wasn't quite himself. Same thing happened about a month ago and lasted a day again. Wondered if it was a virus but seems an odd symptom with only one cheek affected?

Could actually be mild inflammation in the ear canal. TBH wouldn't worry too much if few other symptoms and not in any pain. Could try some ibuprofen to reduce redness.. If it happens again perhaps pop along to the GP.

it sounds like 'slapped cheek' .It is a classical symptom of slapped cheek for one side to look as if you have really slapped it.Its other name is parvo virus B19.
Have you got any other children at school or has any one else child been ill with similar symptoms recently. It is really common and most children get it. Some are off colour some arent. It is the fifth childhood illness.

Just checking...you arent pregnant are you?

Hi, no not pregnant. I did look up slapped cheek but wasn't sure, because he'd had the same thing happen a month ago and it just disappeared. I mentioned it to the HV today and she was a bit mystified as well, just said if it didn't go away to go to the GP.

We have all been a bit under the weather recently with viruses so hopefully it's just the tail end of something.

Slapped cheek has been going around here....

like chicken pox,it is possible to get slapped cheek twice(not common though} but some children harbour the virus for longer than others.
