He has been "off" for a few days, he had a terrible cold but today has taken a turn for the worse.

His temp is 40.1, he is lethargic, lying very still on sofa in and out of sleep, bright red cheeks and a terrible cough. He was sick the other night through coughing. His cough is very wet sounding, he also said his head is sore as is his tummy and his chest.

I have been listening to his breathing while he has been lying on the sofa and he is sort of moaning when he breathes out.

I have spoke to G.P who said if his temp is still above 40 in an hour ring back.

Just wondered if anyone can help me further with this...

Ds still has the cough, i took him back to GP about a week ago who said his chest was ok. This morning he has started vomiting, i thought it was just down to the cough but he is vomiting water almost straight back up, he has been sick 4/5 times in the last hour.

Is it likely to be flem thats causing this? the sick did seem like it was that the first time but now he can't keep anything down.

Maybe it is just a coincidence and he has just got a tummy bug that got to hime when his defences were low? Just keep an eye on him but don't hesitate to take him somwhere if really worried. Had he got better in himself from before?

sounds like a separate stomach bug.

a persistent cough for 2-3 weeks after a chesty cold is quite common for children. if the GP can't hear anything in his chest, it'll just be a case of treating the cough and waiting.

try honey and lemon, steaming and raising pillow at night etc

lots of liquids for vomiting. if he vomits CONTINUOUSLY for over an hour, get further advice.

Thanks Maxybrown and Blinks, for the quick reply.

Yes he did seem ok, just had the lingering cough, it sounds like it is a seperate thing, he is vomiting every 10 mins

Oh bless him. I bet it is completely seperate. Anyhting you give will just come back up, try and get him to sip water. I feel for him - horrid!

Well ds did pretty much all of yesterday without being sick from Sat night and then was again last night. Although may be my fault as i thought he was ok i did him a little bit of tea last night, which he ate...just a bit of broccoli and mash.

So back to square one.

Hi Pucca

Sorry to hear your ds is poorly again. Sounds so similar to my dd2 and dd3, both on antibiotics now! They too have had sickness bug as well as chesty, coldy etc....

I can't wait for them to be back to normal, I feel like making any food for them is totally pointless as most of it ends up in the bin!

It is hard work isn't it?! Not to mention all the washing after all the sickness......

Hopefully he is feeling better now

All the best.

maxybrown · 14/12/2009 10:17

Yeah, best to gove him nothing I reckon. Although he should be able to manage some toast or dry crackers or something? if not soon, then i would take him back to docs.
