Think we may need to take dd to a&e

Poor dd. Was kicking a balloon and kicked the sofa (hard bit) at full pelt. now she is not one to whinge at all. Has fallen off horses plenty of times and declared she is fine even with good bruises. So when she complains I know she means it.

I've iced it, given her nurofen and then half an hour later as she was still crying and wincing, calpol. Its not making much difference at all and she can't put her foot down.

I suspect she has broken one or two toes. We are trying another bout of ice and a dollop of cartoon network and if it doesn't ease off then go. Not sure they will be able to do anything but I'll let a&e tell me that, no point in trying to second guess them.

Ohhh OUCH!!

for your dd

norksinmywaistband · 22/11/2009 12:29

Ooh poor DD, I agree is she is still in pain and unable to walk then A&E is the only sensible option.
Hope you don't have to wait too long to be seen

cookielove · 22/11/2009 12:29

i would go, my friend broke her toe and they splintered it to the one next to it, even if they can't do anything about it i least you would know for sure

dd was really brave, didn't cry in a&e. She has broken her toe, clean crack across inside her foot. It is strapped up. Fracture clinic appt on tuesday. No weight bearing (but they don't have crutches for her size in) So I guess that means no school tomorrow.

dd is utterly gutted. Lots of really nice things going on in and out of school this week and her birthday. Am so for her.

Poor thing. How old is she?

We've recently had to cancel DDs birthday party following a trip to A&E and fracture clinic. She was surprisingly OK about it though. We just made her b'day extra special, went out for a family meal etc so that the cancelled sports party didn't matter too much.

Hope she gets better soon

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2009 16:40

She is 9. I really hope this heals quickly. It is difficult when they are so active isn't it. How is your dd now?

Shes on the mend thanks (shes the same age as your DD actually, or was when it happened as shes had her b'day now)-in her case it was her arm though so not as restricting in many ways.

Also, after all the initial pain/shock was over I think she quite liked the attention -"aaah, poor you" from everyone, special treatment at school, friends bustling round to help her etc.

She also liked her first (and hopefully last!) ride in an ambulance, so overall its not been too much of a negative experience.

I hope your DD manages to gain something from it and its not too horrible an experience all round.

Poor little thing. Could you find her a walking stick and cut it to length? Will at least help her get around a bit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2009 17:19

Thanks Norbert. It is quite a shock for them isn't it. dd keeps bursting into tears. She's watching a dvd at the moment and that seems to be enough to distract her though. Am glad your dd is on the mend now

carrieboo. That might be an option when she can put some weight on it. At the moment she can't bear any part of her foot touching the ground for more than a couple of steps. I'll ask, thanks

oh poor little kittne

hope she is on the mend soon x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/11/2009 17:49

Thanks Lulu.

Is there anything else I can do for her pain? She is on full dose of ibuprofen and calpol. I've put another ice pack on which helps a bit. Top of her foot is really bruising and swelling now. Shes ok for a bit then cries out.
Feel rather hopeless.

And for her birthday we bought her a really nice football and a pair of stilts. Thats going to be really crap isn't it.
