my 18 month old DS has been walking funny since yesterday and I am sure he never fell at least not seriously. He is no pain and is very normal except whne he walks it is obviously not right. I am thinking of all the possibilities from nothing to some bone infection. GP has asked me to go to A& E for more tests but he said from what he's seen there seems to be nothing serious...anybody been through something like this?

has he had a cold recently? The same virus can inflame teh fluid in joints but will calm down with anti infalmmatroies leik nurofen. dd had a "hip cold" at about the same age.

this happened recently with my 2 year old.
You HAVE to take him to the hospital for an xray and some blood tests.
They need to rule out septic arthritis which can be very dangerous.

My 2 year old stayed in overnight and had another xray done the day after. They let him home once they were confident he didn't have septic arthritis. They diagnosed 'irritable hip' or 'reactive arthritis' also known as a cold on the hip as LIZS said.

He continued to limp for a couple of weeks then got better.

Good luck.

what dragon said

lots of viruses around at the moment, some young children react with a transient joint inflammation

but you do need to rule out more serious things

try not to worry

Also, transient synovitus of the hip (the swelling of the fluid after a cold virus) often presents as knee pain in young children, because they can't tell where the pain is coming from.

thank you ladies..went to A&E and they ruled out iritable hip and he seems to be walking normal today! I was rather wary about any underlying hidden problem and hopefully it was just ahairline farcture as suggested..no blod tests done but it seemed quite clear to the doctor it WAS NOT irritable hip which my GP wanted to rule out when he sent me there..gee kids always keep us worried !
