She has to take for long period of time and already in week one im sturggling. She spits out and wont take.

I have resorted to tipping her up and laying her down and almost forcing her....but she STILL manages to spit mostout.

Can i give in drink??

It sayes to take beofre food, or on empty stomach.

Anyone else had this????

Try asking the pharmacy where you got the medicine from. I had this situation some time ago and was told it was fine to mix the dose of medicine with a spoonful of yogurt, I think it may depend on the medicine though.

mindermummy · 18/11/2009 20:03

shouldnt mix it with yoghurt or food as it prevents it from being absorbed. i would give it with a drink if it meant she got her dose but make sure she gets the whole dose as it will be ineffective.you can get different flavours of phenoxymethylpenicillin..some are strawberrry, some are orange.....you could always ask Gp if you can have another prescritpion and get pharmacy to get the right flavour for you.

If she needs antibiotics again....amoxycillin comes in a concentrated one called Amoxil paediatric and you only have to give a 1.25ml dose with a pipette. It tastes alot better too.

i think its banana or peach

alypaly · 19/11/2009 00:14

just had a look on the data sheet, its peach, strawberry and lemon....so tropical fruity flavoured.Much easier for them to swallow..but lots of GP's seem to have forgotten about them.

Maybe its because they are slightly more expensive than the generics.

i would definitely ask to change as long as it is the correct antibiotic for her and as it is a penicillin i cant see why your GP wont change it,rather than you struggling.
Good luck

there is no reason why she should be allergic ,just because you are.

i had the exact same problem with my 3 year old. Wen its medicine time its amazing hw strong kids can be! I tried holding him dwn & forcing him bt he wud stil manage 2 dribble it out. I then talked him round 2 having it with a syringe a tiny squirt of medicine followed by a big sip of juice, until it was finished. Its important 2 praise them and hug them after each sip of medicine. Thankfully its wrking so far. I also noticed once the child feels better it gets easier 2 give it!
