DD has said not to collect her...but would you go and get her anyway?

I can't decide, so looking for some views please.

DD's school has just called, to say that she has been injured playing rugby. She has apparenty got 2 black eyes and a bruised swollen nose. They don't think it is broken as they can move it from side to side, but obviously they don't know for sure. She has an ice pack.

The school said she is ok, not upset, that it was my call as to wether i wanted to come and get her or not. I spoke to DD and she said she was fine, not to bother coming.

I am at work, but I would quite happily leave. I'm just feeling a bit useless, and part of me wants to go and collect her, but another part is thinking, she said she is fine, just leave her.

WWYD?

She is 9 (just) if that makes a difference.

I'd go and have a snuggly DVD afternoon.

I would go and get her without a second thought. You said yourself you don't know if her nose is broken.

I'm amazed at girls playing rubgy.

But back to the point, I would collect, yes.

Sorry for disappearing.

Just an update, it is not half as bad as was originally thought, definitely not broken, just sore and a bit swollen. Her eyes aren't really black although I think they might look a little bit worse tomorrow. I think an hour with the ice pack helped.

Rugby is the sport of choice for this term for both boys and girls, although they are meant to play it gently, as they play with proper hard balls and it was one of these balls that some lovely child decided to purposely hit DD with full force in the face!

Ouch. Yes will probably look worse tomorrow. Hope it's not too sore.

Cammelia my SIL grew up playing rugby with boys. She always had black eyes/sprains/a broken nose. She plays for England now... it's a particular form of madness but she seems happy.

Brave dd! Im really quite heartened to hear girls play rugby at school in a strange feminist type way!

ElizabethWakefield · 17/11/2009 19:06

Good for your SIL, SoH, although it does sound rather painful.

I didn't realise it was uncommon for girls to play rugby in schools, they have no choice in it, the way the boys have had to play netball in the past

Oh at dd's school only the boys play rugby and I've always been really glad that the girls don't play. The boys are always getting injured, my nephew got a broken collar bone
