The first one wasn't flat which is how verruccas are supposed to be I believe. It has a hard ring around it.I've been treating with some stuff that Doc gave me but since then he has another smaller one and now has a white pimply thing on his foot aswell.Does anyone have experience of multiple verruccas on a child's foot?

Yep! Apparently you get "female" ones that breed (We have been there).

Treat them with duct tape, it's cheap, chemical free, painless & works!

Duct tape treatment

If your ds is over 4 then I would get one of the freezing treatments from your chemist ie wartner.

Soak foot in warm water for 5 mins, file down verruca, apply treatment. Wait 2 weeks and repeat if verruca still present.

Repeat treatments are likely to be needed on a long established verruca but a fresh one usually only requires the one.

Loads of experience here unfortunately - my lovely darlings seem to pick them up every time they walk past a swimming pool. My advice is go to a good chiropodist / podiatrist instead of a doctor. They are not necessarialy flat, you can feel the bump iykwim.

Taramuddle · 13/11/2009 22:22

also don't worry too much about them, my doctor told me in general they are not worth treating as they pose no threat to health & will go naturally eventually!

elliephant · 13/11/2009 22:29

They can however become very painful if left untreated and are of course very contagious. They can be spread by any contact even touching them with your hand etc so make sure you are careful and that ur DS wears socks or slippers around the house, clean the shower tray etc if he uses it etc . Some people are just more prone to the virus unfortunately. The over the counter treatments never worked for my lot btw just burnt the top of the thing and left the roots in.

My dds have had millions a small problem with both veruccas on the feet and warts on the hands.

TBH the best thing to do is leave them alone. If you're worried about spreading the veruccas then sealing them with clear nail varnish helps with swimming etc.

If you let them go on their own (can take up to 2 years though) then a natural immunity will have been built up and they are unlikely to come back. Keep treating them and they'll more than likely come back until your ds eventually grows out of them (or not if they're really unlucky).

TidyBush · 13/11/2009 22:42

Forgot to add that veruccas are just warts on the feet so only flatten because they get squashed down by the weight of being walked on.

son now has x 2 little pimply things and two bigger verruccas.....one of them-the one he has for the longest amount of time-is getting quite big and has lots of little blackie brown "dots"in it....is this normal?

OP posts:
ihatethecold · 15/11/2009 15:13

yes thats normal, thats the roots of the verruca, we went to our docs many times to get them frozen as it was painful for my ds to walk. they went eventually, but we did also use duct tape

thumbwitch · 15/11/2009 15:16

I had one that didn't look like a proper verucca - no obvious black centre etc. Anyway, one day it bred and I ended up with 20 on the foot with the main one and 6 on the other foot.

Salactol and daily pumicing got rid of them all, thank goodness - when the top came off the main verucca, it had 6 black dots (roots) in a row - t'was a big bugger! Came out nice and clean in the end though.

MayorNaze · 15/11/2009 15:20

covering with a banana skin works. seriously. icky side to verruca. tape it on. replace when necessary. keep up for a few days. verruca should go

MrsFlittersnoop · 15/11/2009 15:24

DS had one very painful verucca, which then multiplied into about 15 on one foot. Dr freezing them with liquid nitrogen didn't work. Duct tape did for them like a charm - took about a month.

DS used to dig them out in the bath, once they'd softened up!

alypaly · 17/11/2009 12:26

verrucas are ingrowing warts.....they normally have a slightly cauliflower appearance and can spread.
DS2 had about 15 in a cluster on the ball of his foot.
Wartner was rubbish ,so i resorted to the silver nitrate pencil.....called Avoca. It is brilliant. Persevere with it and they all go. Follow the instructions to the tee..as it is caustic. It turns the area treated brown so you can tell which bit to sandpaper away(the skin dies) and evev=ntually it gets to the root. And Bingo its gone.
Just a tip though...let the nib of the avoca pencil dry before you put the top on,otherwise it falls off. I recommend it to all pepole with verrrucas when they come to the pharmacy cos it works.
Its similar to the stuff chiropodists use.
