She's due to have it this afternoon.
However, last night when Hubbie came home we decided to do a bit more research.
This Guillan-Barre link seems to be so prevalent....even though i've googled about it for most of the week!
Apparently,a teenage boy has been diagnosed with it after having the jab.
Hubbie-although quite prepared to let her go ahead with it up until then-has now decided we should leave it for a couple of weeks.Would you?

can't understand why Sky news hasn't picked up on the news actually.I think it was on NBC(?)News last night. However,I don't know whether the vaccine is the same as the one they use over here (uk).

If you have any doubt I would postpone.

FIJSB,I just don't understand why there doesn't appear to be many people whose kids have had the jab. There's one lady on here whose dd had it yesterday but i've not heard about anyone else.Seems really strange to me.

Mine have had it. Both fine, two weeks+ later.

dd2 has a stinking cold now though, and is due the second dose next week - I might postpone it if she was unwell, as I might a seasonal flu jab. Or if there was a history of immune issues in our family. As it is, the risk to her from SF is more worrying to me than the possible tiny risk of GB from the flu jab, so....

dh has also had it (asthmatic) and is fine

Good luck deciding!

I have been offered the swine flu jab but I won't be having it and I wouldn't let my children have it either.

My boys have had it and and so have I (asthma). DS2 is 12 and had a very sore arm, apparently because over 10s have a single dose and it can affect them more afterwards. There are two sorts of vaccine and we had the one beginning with 'P' which is single dose for over 10s. I have not worried about having it.

cutekids · 13/11/2009 10:04

Sherbert,my dd2 is only 9 and when I was discussing this with the Doc,I asked if she would be having 1/2 vaccinations and he told me there would be only 1!!!?

You are definitely at increased risk of GBS if you get flu. One boy (out of millions) may have acquired GBS after a flu vacc (or he might have been brewing GBS anyway).

You asked WWYD, personally I would bet on the jab being much less likely to result in GBS than an actual bout of flu, and I think the likelihood of getting swine flu even if it's only a mild case is very high if you never get the jab. So I would get the jab for my child..... Which has not been offered yet to my DS-21 months, but I hope it will be soon.

i've cancelled.....just hope i've done the right thing.

dd had it yesterday. I've had trouble making my mind up (understatement) . Like Elibean I decided that the benefits (not being seriously ill from SF) outweighed the risks (GBS etc). It's a tough decision; but you know your child's health best.
