Bless him

He is so poorly and is barely taking any milk. What he has taken he has just projectiled vomited after a coughing bout. His fontanelle is slightly sunken and pulsating.

Is there any point taking him to the Dr? Can they give him anything?

I would, or at least phone for advice. Hope he's okay!

Try simple cooled boiled water off a small spoon ... keeping baby hydrated is most important. chemist should have re-hydration sachets which help replace the lost fluids and electrolytes ... give them a call to ask or your midwife should be able to advise and help.
things will be fine .. dont panic ... keep up the fluids and things will settle down.
Good luck nurse!

Yes of course take him to the drs - he's very little still!

suwoo · 12/11/2009 14:36

I'm not panicking, I'm really not at all a panicker, thats why I am asking on here whether I should take him? I never go to the Dr's .

He is asleep now, will see how he is in a bit.

I never go to the drs either - mine have been about twice in their whole lives. But I think I'd be a bit bothered by the fontanelle - particularly if he's not taking milk. Do you think he might be a bit dehydrated?

suwoo · 12/11/2009 14:57

He has taken a lot less fluid than normal, but until recently he has been taking 60 oz . Have spoken to NHS direct who said no alarm bells were ringing beyond him having a cough/cold but I should ring the Dr and see whether they want to see him. Ringing them back in 10 mins.

Yup, I would.

just trying to be helpful ...hope things are ok

Take him - it sounds potentially like bronchoilitis. If he is at all wheezy and doesn't feed then he needs looking at asap.

suwoo · 12/11/2009 17:12

Sorry soozedol, I wasn't being rude, I was trying to word my post so that it didn't come across as snippy- but I failed, sorry.

LIZS, you are right, bronchiolitis . Nothing to give him, so will just keep a close eys. Will be me next I feel it a'coming.

Sorry to hear that , dd had it about the same age and was miserable for a week or so. A humidifier can help if you have access to one. To an adult the same vrius (RSV) is little more than a regular cold so hope you aren't too bad and all feel better soon.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 10:06

suwoo - how is he today?

suwoo · 13/11/2009 12:08

He's not too bad, thank you. He projectile vomited again in the night all over me and my bed- which was nice

He is more wheezy though, so I'm keeping a close eye on that as I don't want to end up in A&E with him

at the projectile vomiting. Poor boy.. and poor you! nobody should ever have to change a pukey bed in the middle of the night!

Did you go to the GPs?

EdgarAllenPoo · 13/11/2009 12:47

gP and don't spare the horses. i don't go to the doctors at all for myslf, but i think for a 15wk old it is important to treat a bad wheeze as possibly serious.

hopefully it will just be a waste of time, and they'll tell you not to worry about it.

suwoo · 13/11/2009 13:00

Yeah I went yesterday, thats when they said bronchiolits. Wouldn't give him anything though.
