Urinary Tract Infection in 4yr old

dd started vomiting, v. high temp and very tired on Sunday. Handed in urine sample at GP yesterday and after dip it has shown infection. To make matters worse she has had (started 2 weeks ago)a blood streak in her poo. She was checked over at A&E at the time for the blood in poo and they found no trace of fissure or pile and she is now waiting for appt at out-patients. I am frantic with worry that there is a link to the UTI and blood in stool. Any ideas or experience. I can't stand having to wait for out-patients appt.

Is she on anti biotics ?

If not I would suggest you ask your GP.

My DD had all this aboyt 4 years ago, so I know first hand how worrying it can all be. She is absolutely fine now, although watches what she drinks like a hawk.

Was the blood bright red as if fresh ?

Hi Carrotfly - GP started her on AB's yesterday (although sample away to lab, but cos it had shown infection they thought best to start treating her straight away). Blood was relatively bright red, quite fresh looking. There hasn't been any blood on the last few bm's, but worrying all the same. It was on the surface.
Did your dd have any other symptoms at the time (ie sick temp etc)

Thats all good news (in my opinion anyway)

My DD was lethargic and out of sorts for a couple of days before it was diagnosed, with a temp, but not massively high. She then got a pain in her back, which was the trigger for me. I guess we are all affected by things in different ways.

I was told the blood was a side effect of the infection and nothing to worry too much about.

Once the ABs kicked in she was back to normal.

It can be quite common for girls to suffer like this. They will identify the bacteria in the urine. Most typically it will be the result of wiping from back to front when she goes to the loo.

You may be referred to the hospital as we were at a later stage to have a more detailed examination. I hope it wont come to that but if it does CAT me and I can talk you througfh our experiences.

As I said, she is absolutely fine now and clear of recurrent infections for many years.

Hope this helps.

Fao Carrotfly and anyone else with any thoughts on this. After being told that dd has urine infection (afted dip at GP) - we have now been told that the sample has come back from lab and no infection there. Spoke to GP on telephone yesterday. He asked me a few questions. dd has had a few problems recently ie blood in stool 2.5 weeks ago, she has had in the last month the odd blocked nose esp in the morning, complains of sore leg (esp back of knee) and sometimes her tummy is sore. She had vomit bug started on Sun but feeling better now. She also has a tiny pea size lump at the curve of her neck at side (been there for ages and ages but doc says that could just be the way she is and watch for it increasing in sizr). Been to GP about all of these things - We are awaiting Out-Patients appt for Gastro dept. I'm very anxious and worried. She hasn't lost weight and otherwise has an appetite and very alert and playful. She is 4. Tbh these symptoms are all relatively new, except for the sore legs (she has special insoles for rolled ankles and flat feet, so that could be the reason for this. Sorry to go on.
