Front-bottom question for mothers of girls

Our girls seem to get red looking front bottoms every now and again. Assume it's because they're often in too much of a rush to wipe their bottoms properly after they've had a pee, even though we've ticked them off for it and remind them that they need to do it properly etc. etc. So, I've got into the habit of having a quick look at their bottoms after their baths each night and if they're looking red (as opposed to the usual colour) then I put a bit of Sudacrem on them and then that clears up the red patch and we carry on as usual until the next time.

Just wondered though - do most mums check their girls' front bottoms regularly - ie. is it normal for girls to sometimes get extra red looking bottoms - or it is just a case of making sure they wash properly in the bath each night and then only having a look if a child flags a problem?

TIA.

Am so glad to read this thread. dd (3) has been complaining recently of a sore bottom & so I put cream on it which seems to soothe. I'd been wondering how to stop it happening, suspecting that she's a bit rough when wiping.

Good point madrush - must doublecheck that the DD's are wiping front to back.

I make sure DD's bottom is very well washed with a gentle gel as I have found this makes a big difference to soreness - I usually wash her bottom for her, and make sure it is very well rinsed with the shower.

Just wanted to point out make sure underpants are cotton and not tight, and they should not be worn at night time.

Snowstorm thanks. sounds like the same thing. Will do as you advise. Thanks again.

DD (3) gets a rashy bum and noonie (thats what we call it ) from time to time because she's not wiping properly, I always make sure she has, and put some sudocream on.

We'd actually got into the habit of the DD's wearing pants at night because DD2 had threadworm over a year ago and so I thought pants would be an additional barrier between an itchy bottom and my thumb stucking children. They don't suck their thumbs anymore but I kept going with the pants because it seemed more hygenic and easier to wash a small pair of pants then pj bottoms so regularly.

Is it bad then?

I see your point about threadworms and panties at night, but once the threadworms are treated, then it's best not to wear panties at night.

snowstporm - my 7y wears pants at night - her own choice. She has never suffered from soreness. I now no pants is supposed to be better but it is her preference.

My dd has the bladder capacity of Belgium and a concentration span of a centipede. She pees like a racehorse then jumps of the loo to go on and do something else. Due to this, she often gets a red 'bit' and we put a smear of Swiss herbal cream on it. Sudocrem isn't available here, I supsect the cream we do use doesn't do much good but it makes her feel better. Redness of bit does increase if she sleeps with knickers on under her pajamas or nighty.

... "My dd has the bladder capacity of Belgium and a concentration span of a centipede. She pees like a racehorse " - ... love the way you phrased that - captures it all perfectly - .

Maybe I should try pantless at nights then ... WOW ... this step towards nakedness/freedom is going to blow their little minds - ha!ha!

I'm not sure whether to be appalled or amused that you are comparing the size of your child's bladder with my country of habitation

Great thread - was just about to start one similar myself. Girls with sore bits & pieces seem to dominate my life. No one bloody wipes properly and won't let me get to them either. It's a bloody pain in the arse.
