If you discovered head lice on your children, do you get in touch with the parents of children they have played with?

And how far back do I need to go?

It's the first time they've had them. DS1 has a few around his neck. DS2 has about 1 of the little blighters.

Going to treat them overnight tonight with Hedrin.

Did you do yourself too?

Yes do yourself. Not sure if I'd mention it.

pinkteddy · 25/10/2009 16:47

yes you must do everyone in the house at the same time. Chances are that you will have them. I would comb as well as using Hedrin. Comb at least twice this week and again after the second batch of hedrin.

I think they take 3-5 days to lay eggs so anyone they have had contact in the last week at least I would let know (at least one of those children probably gave them to your ds's!)

I let my sister know. She's checked the kids and they don't have any.

It's been half term for two weeks so don't think he could have got it at school.

No itching either. But it is headlice.

I feel itchy now!

simplycurious · 25/10/2009 16:54

You must let the parents of the kids know, in a 'Thought I better let you know that Jonny has headlice and you might want to check your kids too' stylee. Let the school/nursery know too.

There's no shame in it. It's just an annoying part of having DCs

TrickOrTrefusis · 25/10/2009 16:56

Yes, definitely. We've just got rid of our very first lot of them, and it would have been much worse if the Mum of their friends, who had been round to play, hadn't warned us to check.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/10/2009 19:44

Tried to call two mums whose children have played with DS this week, no answer so have sent a text.
One mum has texted back saying her son in clear. No word yet from the other.

We all are soaked in hedrin at the moment and have been combed.

One little louse fell out of DS1's hair.

There are a few flecks around his neck but they don't seem to be alive. Are they the eggs? I thought the eggs would be white.

The eggs are brown if they haven't hatched, white when they have.

We had our first case last week, I haven't stopped itching since.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/10/2009 21:11

So if they haven't hatched will the Hedrin get rid of them or not?

i remember sitting a friend down and telling her how sorry i was but i had to tell her that my kids had nits and therefore her kids would probably have nits too.

she laughed and said "don't be daft, it was probably mine that gave 'em to yours"

i was relived - but a little pissed off!

Tortington · 25/10/2009 21:15

you have to repeat the process in a weeks time

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/10/2009 21:18

oh joy, another sunday night with us all oiled up.

OP posts:
Tortington · 25/10/2009 21:30

comb through with conditioner nightly

nevergoogledragonbutter · 25/10/2009 21:32

will do.

thankfully they seem to like the combing.
