Hi can anyone help? My 12 year old daughter is 5'9" and weighs about 8 stone (ish) - we are not big on weighing ourselves. She hasn't started her periods yet but has breast buds and has had pubic hair since she was about 5 (another story).
She is very very sporty and has a good appetite but she is really thin and i have started to notice dark hair on her back and her skin is very bumpy and dry.
Does anyone know if this is because of her weight or could it be something else. I dont want to make a big issue about it with her as i dont think she has noticed her back.
I would really appreciate any comments.

AFAIK the hair anorexics is soft, not corse and quite fine.

A trip to the gp couldn't hurt though. Is there any doubt that she has an eating disorder? Bulemia maybe? Or is she just naturally very thin?

could the body hair be related to the pubic hair in some way? my first thought was pcos but i don't even know if that's possible at her age.

i think you should take her to your gp, just in case its a sign of something else. esp as she has obviously had hormone problems in the past

you could just say to your Dd that you want the dr to check her dry skin

i understand you don't want to make an issue of it with her. but you do want to get some medical advice i think

Yes - I would say it was just hereditary - I have it, as do DD1 and DD2 - it's quite fine, but not completely blonde!
However, she does sound very, very thin - it might just be that she is a thin person, and she might 'thicken out' over time, or with puberty.
However, I would be inclined just to get her checked out, just because she is quite thin.

I had a friend who was anorexic at Uni and she developed fine downy hair on her face and arms (not sure about her back). She was pretty seriously ill at that point though. Your daughter sounds light, but not dangerously underweight, especially if she is very sporty and not filled out through puberty yet. I was probably the same build at her age. It sounds like its hereditary or a hormone issue, probably worth getting checked out with the GP. Could you do it as an aside so as not to make a big thing of it?(once she starts noticing it, her friends will too surely)
