Toothbeary clinic in Richmond

My five year old has to have at least 1 tooth extracted (under a general anaesthic), and some other major dental work done. We were recommeded the Toothbeary clinic and have been for our initial consultation, and they seem great.

She is extremely phobic about dentists (took her 20 mins to open her mouth), and as she will have to go back and forth for a few months, just wanted to know other mums' experience of the clinic.

Many thanks.

dd had three crowns and two fillings done () at Toothbeary last year, aged 5, and we take both dds there for their regular check-ups now.

Our experience was all positive - as positive as GA and dentistry can be, anyway! Even though she hated the needle in back of hand bit, and still remembers it clearly, she has no problem going back there, and remembers the nice nurse, the toys, and the 'presents' afterwards just as much.

Also, FWIW, our dentist (not Toothbeary) told us what he would have charged for paediatric dentistry and it made Toothbeary seem very very good value...

We met a couple of other parents in the waiting room, and they were all very happy with it too. Good luck to your dd

Thanks so much for that feedback puts my mind at rest, and extremely kind to let me know about your experience.

Dentistry at this age is horrid, esp if they are phobic!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! It’s absolutely dreadful and they have no idea about what they are talking about and recommended a crown for my 3 year olds milk tooth! They were opposed to the easiest option and clearly this is just a money making business and the most expensive option is clearly preferable to them. Avoid at any cost!!!!!

Just wanted to make fellow parents in Richmond and surrounding areas know of my shocking experience today with this dentist. We were told by our normal dentist that our 4 year old needed an emergency tooth extraction under sedation (aka gas and air).

DO NOT USE THESE MUPPETS if you are in an EMERGENCY situation. Absolutely no help.

YOU HAVE BEEN warned in an emergency AVOID AVOID AVOID. All they want to do is book a consultation and then re-book emergency procedures. WHAT A JOKE.

Let me help you. They told me to go to Happy Kids!! How about that! They are so bad they are referring you to the competition!!

My child was in severe pain. These guys DID NOT help. Their emergency procedure is to do a consultation first! And then (when they have decided how much money they want to charge) book a follow up. This is incredibly un- child friendly behaviour. The dentist I spoke to was not even willing to see my child. No Compassion, no care in the world, no help for children who are in pain.

  1. They were NOT even willing to see my child, so they didn’t see the swelling, my child had been on antibiotics for over 72 hours. So how can they made a judgment on the phone is beyond me. YOU CANT! We had been in and out of A&E for 72 hours and they didn’t care!
  2. They DID NOT even take a look at the referral letter I had. It was a true EMERGENCY! They didn’t even offer to let us come and be seen. Apparently fully booked. Even in extreme case like this NO HELP.
  3. However, they told me to go to their competitors, Happy Kids. Happy Kids opened up an appointment, moved people around looked at the referral and guess what went the EXTRA mile for a child in pain. Something Toothbeary should have done.
  4. We were in A&E and the doctors there said we needed a dentist with child friendly facilities. This Dentist IT NOT the place.
  5. Their rational for not looking at my child was they wanted to go home early. (23 Dec). Instead of looking at his swelling, they turned us away.

For anyone that reads this , trust the advice the Toothbeary dentist gave me and go to their competitors HAPPY KIDS.

THIS IS THE ONLY DENTAL PRACTICE I WILL TAKE MY CHILDREN TO.
I have taking my girls to Toothbeary since it first opened in 2008. My daughters were 1 and 3.
We travel 1.5 hours to get there. It is worth it. The care that all staff show is exceptional. My children's teeth are perfect. Their examinations are rigorous and for the service you receive (above NHS) it is fair and reasonably reasonable priced. The practice is set up so that children have a positive experience of visiting a dentist - and they do.
Most importantly my kids love it there. They have never made a fuss about going. Just the opposite - they are keen to go. They feel proud that this is their practice. I have tried taking them to local dentists but the service is very different. This is so child-centered. My kids have formed a close relationship with Nicole, the owner. She genuinely cares. I highly recommend Toothbeary!!
