ds1 was 3 in june. Has always been very lively, outgoing non stop, the usual typical boy. Over the last 2 months he seems to have slowed down alot. I noticed it about a month ago and he was always tired, tried re introducing naps (against his will) and this made no difference. Has got worse through september and the last 2 weeks he is barely eating anything and has always been a great eater. He is eating sometimes no breakfast, half slice toast, odd bit of tea, wont even eat treats. I asked pre school today (has been going a year) and they observed him today and they said that he def isnt the boy he 'used' to be. Quiet, teary.

He also has been hurting himself a bit, falling over etc but have put that down to being tired. Took him to doc about a month ago who said on paper he was fine, perhaps a viral blah blah.

Anyway he has 11 hours sleep at night and wakes up every morning saying he is so tired....

nothing has happened in his life during these 2 months, all the same....WWYD?

And do not google

Have only read the first post but yes I would take him. I would ask for referral to hospital.

Trust your intuition. You wouldn't be asking on here if you weren't worried.

Please take your DS back to the GP and if she doesn't order blood tests, take him to A&E. I'm not saying this could be the case with your child, but at the age of 3, my DD was very tired, pale, had no appetite & had enlarged lymph nodes - GP thought it was a "virus", then "glandular fever" - we insisted on her being admitted to hospital & once there she was very quickly diagnosed as having leukaemia. Chances are your little one will be fine, but I'd definitely insist on more tests to be on the safe side.

I really don't want to alarm you but I can remember what a worrying time it was for us and how assertive we had to be with our GP. We must have seen him at least half a dozen times before he wrote the referral letter.

Hope your little one feels better soon.

I have to agree with Hormonster.

The biggest chance is that he is fine but you really have to have blood tests to be sure.

They need to look at his iron levels, platlet count and white cell count.

It is not unreasonable after a long period of tiredness to expect a blood test.

It really is best to get this done.

I'd definately advise what hormonster above says. We were in the same initial position when ds1 was 2.5. After much pestering on our part he got the referral and it turned out to be glandular fever. I remember the anxiety of not knowing.

Hope he gets back to his old self soon.

thanks guys.

Its wierd as yesterday and today he has eaten alot more than normal, well for a long time. Pre school today said again that he was very quiet. He had some allergy tests this afternoon which have been booked for a while. Nothing we didnt know of came up.

We fell asleepin the car on way home at about 3.30 and slept for 3/4 hour in car, had to wake him up, he then was asleep at 7.30. Very tearful/emotional. I dont think he is 'ill' there just is something very different about him. CAnt help thinking all it is, is my fault due to neglecting him as alot of my attention goes on ds2 with his health

Mad4myguys, It IS NOT your fault. You are not neglecting him.

Get him back to the Dr, get the blood tests, if for no other reason than to put your mind at ease.
You have enough to worry about, so just get this crossed off your list.

Mad4myboys, I forgot to add that my niece had a very successful operation and is now an extremely lively and noisy 4yo, if that helps.
