Strep A skin infection - anyone got any experience?

DD2 (5 months) was diagnosed with a Strep A skin infection about 10 days ago after being misdiagnosed with eczema. She had 5 days of Amoxicillin plus anti fungal cream for her skin folds, which were bright pink and weeping, for good measure. It all cleared up beautifully until the day she came off her ABx, when suddenly she got a rash behind her knees, followed by a few red spots on her legs and tummy. Alarm bells rung and I took her to the GP who gave her another 5 day's worth of Amoxicillin AND the anti fungal cream, but said to him it looked like eczema after all. She's been back on ABx for a day now but I haven't seen an improvement yet. So, my question - has anyone else's child had this type of skin infection? What was the treatment and how long did it take till it cleared up? Any ideas on what else I could do apart from feeding her her medicine? Do her clothes / bedding need to be washed daily, and how hot? Any other tips greatly appreciated, thanks!

No probs about hijacking Thanks everyone for advice. So we are doing the right thing after all then? I'll be back to the doc's again if things haven't cleared up completely when we finish this course of ABx. Sigh. This might turn into a long story.

After nearly a year they did a swab, never heard back so as told thought they hadn't cultured anything. Went back after a few more months and it turned out that the swab had been contaminated or something but they hadn't told me - arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

When we used canestan HC it used to clear up but of course it just came back.

We did get referred in the end, by the time the appt came through we had the 2nd swab back already confirmed as strep A and she'd also developed psorasis. The dr had pescribed 1 or 2 weeks of anitbiotics, the consultant upped it to 3 weeks.

Very frustrating when it's your 4th child and you keep telling them that there is something wrong, and that you don't think it's thrush. I also potty trained her as they insisted that would solve the problem - of course it made no difference.

ONly blessing was that she was actually taking the anitbiotics when she got chicken pox - it could have lost her had the strep A not being treated at that point (it gets into their blood and can kill very quickly).

My dd had perianal strep which is step A

Dear me, CarGirl. How awful. Did it look really bad all the time? And how did you know it had gone for good? That's the thing I am most worried about - that we don't kill the infection completely and it comes back. But I guess I'll know if things get worse again?

I knew it had gone for good because her bum looked "normal" for the first time in a long long time. She had peeling skin, blood streaked poo and it was always red and sore and a bit spotty to some degree.

Fortunately the potty training went very well even though she was younger than I had intended to do it.
