Weird blinking

ds1 has started making very pronounced double blinks constantly, it gets worse when he's tired or concentrating but is happening almost constantly now, playschool and my dad even noticed and commented.

he doesn't seem to have anything in his eyes and can't seem to decide if their sore or not... so i'm guessing not!

he's 3...

Habit or tic. My dd had the same thing except hers was eyes wide open. I would ignore it and it'll go away.

problem is i'm in trouble with dp for ignoring it, even to the point of notmentioning it to ds1 at all, and it's been getting progressively worse

need to do something i think but not sure if it's an eye thing and he needs an optician or whether the gp would be best

We had the same with ds at the same age. I took him to the opticians to get checked out and they said it was nothing and his eyesight was fine. They said it was probably a nervous/habit thing and not to worry about it. He's grown out of it now. It might be worth getting him checked at the opticians to be on the safe side

Or sellotape his eye lids closed.

hmm, he has just started playschool so nervous habit could be likely.

My ds did the same. Took him to the doctor who pronounced that it was a habitual thing and he would stop eventually.

I stopped mentioning it to ds and after a few months he stopped doing it.

ok, now his eyes have purple bags undernath them and he's rubbing them saying they're sore... sods law of course it's too late to get him to the docs today so it'll have to be tomorrow morning.

Definitely sounds like a nervous tic. Don't pull him up on it (and persuade DP to do the same) but find out if he's feeling anxious about something - such as playschool. If it continues for a long time, or changes into another kind of tic (clearing throat, pursing lips etc) then I'd talk to your GP about it.
