Type 1 diabetes in 10 yo - any good books?

If any of you have kids with diabetes, have you found any good books aimed at children which explain it?

My friend's gorgeous little ds has just been diagnosed with it and they're all in a state of shock - I thought something that explains it in simple terms might help them all.

It's not specifically for kids, but Diabetes for Dummies is a great book that explains it all in a very straightforward way. It would be a good one for the parents to read but would also make it easy for them to understand and explain to their DS.

for them - I am type 1 and it's a pain. But the treatments are getting better all the time, and there is a lot of support out there. Get them to look into Diabetes UK - I think they have a special support group for younger people. It really helps meeting other people who have the same as you.

Suggest they look into carbohydrate counting as well. Not sure whether they do it for children, but certainly when he is older it is really good as it lets you eat whatever you want and tailor insulin dose to your food, instead of having to always eat the same things and turn down puddings etc because of always being on a fixed dose of insulin. My control is loads better since I started carb counting.

He'll be reet...i'm type 1, have been since i was a kid...it's a pain at times but treatments have improved so much..will second what TheMightyToosh saus about carb counting..i felt i got my life back when i went on the insulin pen rather than fixed dose
