Would anyone like to join me on a nit busting thread?

We are at the moment a completely nit free family - confirmed by the hairdresser yesterday - and I want us to stay that way! My ds is 8 and he is a complete nit-magnet - lice and all other biting insects make a bee line for him, What normally happens is that I notice ds scratching, but because we're busy/disorganized, I don't deal with it straight away, so by the weekend they've spread to one or more of the rest of us, so it becomes a major chore.

This year, I am planning to nitty gritty comb the dcs with conditioner every Wednesday evening and Saturday morning in front of the TV. I'll do myself on Wednesday too after they've gone to bed and sometime on Saturday. Dp can do himself every morning in the shower - he has short hair so it's easy for him.

Anybody want to join me? I quite like the idea of a community of Mumsnet monkeys all simultaneously picking parasites out of their childrens' fur!

Hi Im a first timer .... ds just started school visits only did 2 and I noticed lice this weekend.

Bought a nit comb and some hedrin, tea tree conditioner etc...

Put the hedrin on last night and he's still scratching this morning. IT does say to repeat after a week to get any hatched eggs that have appeared during this time

Am now off to change bedding for the 2nd time.

Im gutted and have felt ill all w-end with it all.

so all you experts in this field - I should tea tree condition hair through twice a week, washing comb out each time????

I was a nit virgin til a few weeks ago - it took a good 2 weeks to get rid of them all and i still plan to use the nitty gritty comb twice a week on my girls. One of them has very thick hair and it is SUCH a chore and she hates it but it must be done. We are using Vosene tea tree shampoo and then lots of conditioner to comb through.
I posted on here before when we found them in dd1's hair. She had been scratching for days and i never thought she might have nits - which gave the bastards time to move on to dd2 and myself. They are vile and i really hope we don't get them again, although ddl has just started school so i guess we will.
