baby teeth extractions - how painful?

My 7.5 year old dd has been booked in to have her 2 lower front incisors removed next week and I'm worried about how painful it will be for her.

She hasn't lost any teeth yet and the adult teeth have been sitting behind these like sharks teeth since about last November, so dentist thinks it's time to take out the baby teeth otherwise the adult ones will never get pushed forwards into the right position (they sit well back while the baby teeth are still there). Also she may be getting other adult teeth through which could go into the gap meant for these ones.

They are wobbly, in fact one is nearly out, although I've kept thinking it's about to come out for the last week and it hasn't!

Am worried about the procedure though, as my only experience of tooth extraction myself was having wisdowm teeth extractions in my late teens and they were very painful. I'm sure baby teeth come out a lot easier than adult wisdom teeth, but she has a low pain threshold at the best of times.

She'll have anaesthetic gel and then the local anesthetic injection and is booked in with someone who specialises in children. She's quite worried, but I've been reassuring her - I was hoping some of you wise mumsnetters could reassure me

My daughter had to have a baby tooth removed for the same reason. It was fine and very quick as tooth was very loose - just not shifting!

Our dentist numbed the gum first then gave the injection very slowly. Completely painless for my daughter and none of the tugging needed for an adult tooth. Worst thing was stopping her from nipping at her lip afterwards as it felt so odd..... too tempting, but can leave them with a badly chewed lip!

My friends daughter has just had the exact same thing done at the same age. She had 2 injections and was fine. If they are already wobbly I would encourage her to wobble away, the looser they are the easier I would think.Definately worth a treat afterwards.

Thanks, certainly one tooth is very loose, so I expect it will come out really easily if she doesn't manage to get it out before the appointment, but the other is only the tinniest bit wobbly, so will probably be harder to remove

The dentist already suggested that the tooth fairy probably paid more for teeth taken out at the dentists, so I jumped on that one and will keep reminding her.

Also not sure whether to keep her off school rest of day or not (appointment is in morning)? It would suit me, to be honest as we're going camping that afternoon but perhaps that's OTT?

Thank you, that is reassuring (although they told me they would be giving an injection as one of them is pretty firmly in still). I will keep reassuring her and am more reassured myself now!
