Has anyone successfully got rid of Molloscum Contagiosum? Help!

Both my kids are suffering with Molloscum, and I can't shift it. I've read that it only spreads very rarely, and also that it is contagious - I'm truly muddled as to what I should do. Websites say don't keep them quarantined, because it can last for 2 years - but it looks pretty horrific, and I know I wouldn't be happy if my kids were playing with kids showing symptoms, if THEY didn't already have it.

Any advice PLEASE!

Seona1973 seriously try wat i did with my sons. he had approx 100. I got a cocktail stick dipped in ..actually it was iodine not dettol.. and then i pricked about a dozen of them quite hard...some bled...ignore the screams LOL! they went red over the next few days and then one by one it trigerred off a chain reaction in the others...they all gradually flared up and then completely disappeared. My son was so embarrased with them cos they look like warts and all the children at school used to poke fun at him in the showers. Now they are gone and they have never returned
this is an old fashioned remedy in one of my dermatology books ( i used to be a medical sales rep for a drmatology company ,so i followed the instructions)I worked. sometimes old fashioned remedies are the best

dd's have gone now thanks in part to the surgeon who did her eye squint surgery!! He removed some from her face and arm while she was under general anaesthetic and the few remaining went away soon after. A bit drastic though!!

ds now has them but his seem to be flaring up and going away at the moment. I do admit to accidently on purpose squeezing them/rubbing them too hard with a towel after his bath and that seems to get the middle bit and helps them go away. DS does tend to shy away if you even look at them though so he may have worked out my cunning plan!!

My daughters have both had molluscum, my 3 year old got rid of hers after a few months but my 5 year old has been plagued by them for 2 1/2 years. I had tried everything from Elizabeth Arden cream, swimming, homeopathic remedies, irritiating the spots to provoke the body into fighting them off etc. etc. and nothing worked. Her spots were so bad at one point she had over 30 and they were getting bigger and bigger. She would scratch them herself (some of them got infected) but wouldn't let us burst them. The doctor took the usual approach of 'be patient and they'll go eventually' much to my dismay, but then a friend suggested taking her to a dermatologist who has finally been able to help! He prescribed a cream called Verrugon ointment (very strong, 50% saliclyic acid) which is normally used for verruca treatment. I think the spots have to be pretty bad and your child has to have been afflicted by them for quite a while before they prescribe this particular cream, but it works and more importantly, it doesn't cause any discomfort to your child. I put it on my daughter's spots overnight, washed it off, and repeated it a few days later. The spots gradually shrivel up. She had over 30 so I treated them in batches. You stick a corn plaster over the spot, put cream into the hole onto the spot and then put a normal plaster over the whole thing. I quickly discovered that the plasters they include in the box are much too 'sticky' and v difficult to get off again, so invested in some child friendly ones instead. After a few weeks of this, she now has only got 3 left, she does have some purple blotches from the really big ones, but they will fade. We are ecstatic and only wish we had gone to the dermatologist much earlier! I hope this helps all despairing parents out there!

I can vouch for Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - it was completely cleared up in less than 3 months on my DD and the smell is lovely. I sometimes use the leftovers...

My 8 year old son had molloscum for a couple of months. Our family doctor said they don't treat it but let it run its course which can be more than a year. After searching the internet we found a simple homeopathic treatment that cost very little called Thudja Occidentalis. I first bought it at my local health food store but later saw it in the pharmacy of my grocery store. Within two weeks all traces of molloscum were gone!

After years of this on dd3 we put plasters over the main ones (about 20) so that when they exploded they didn't re-infect. Result? All gone in a couple of weeks.

My Son had it on his face (all over his forehead & chin, some on nose and upper lip.) Also had a few on his hands. Had researched lots of treatments but advised by pharmacist and Dr to leave it. He got really poorly and think his low immune system meant it started to spread from his forehead and down the side of his face. He started to itch and pick them which didn't look nice. Suddenly had a brain wave to try aloe vera gel as it's natural. Maybe completely fluke, but putting it on his face once a day it went completely flat within 2 days. Still had the slight discolor from where he'd picked them. Disbelieving it could be possible as it was a 99p bottle of Aloe Vera gel from my chemist, tried it on his hands and yes they went flat within days too. 11 days in and the discoloration has nearly gone. 8 months of seeing it there and within a few days it's gone. Hope this helps anyone

I've joined mumsnet especially to help others suffering with molloscum. My son (7) had it for over a year on his legs and chest and it was starting to really upset him. We tried having them frozen twice but more came as I imagine they were waiting in wings. The remaining were left red and sore after treatment although I think most of those frozen eventually went away. By the start of the summer things were at their worst with my son not wanting to change in front of his friends (he'd had a few mean comments!) and dreading our summer holiday. This is when a friend told me about Thuja - a homeopathic medicine that she said was the only thing that got rid of her daughters Molloscum. A bit sceptical but I tried it. I bough some Thuja pills from amazon and also the organic pharmacy I think the dose was 30cl and was told to give him one small pill (tiny and taste like sugar) 3 times a day avoiding eating directly after. I then also bought some topical cream (I got some from amazon) and applied it very carefully only to the molloscum and tried not to rub or spread the infection to contain its speed. (I was very careful with the pot of cream not to contaminate it and used a clean spoon etc and different fingers to apply). I did this twice a day and it was quite a sweet bonding experience actually. I would say within a week there was a difference and by two week there was a marked improvement. By the third week of the holiday my son even felt confident enough to take off his rashie vest and get some sun on his skin. It is now six weeks later and he is totally free of molloscum and I can't believe it was even such a problem! (There are some faint scars from the frozen ones and I will buy some vitamin e cream). My friend who told me about Thuja in the first place 🙏🏼 had a slower response and her daughters took 3 months to completely go but she didn't apply topical cream too. I've no idea if there are any adverse effects to using Thuja but we certainly didn't experience any and I think it's just a plant and used by homeopaths for years. This is our first foray into homeopathic medicine but I'd definitely try it again after this experience. Hope this helps other kids suffering and I just wish someone had told me about Thuja as soon as it appeared but even the dermatologist told us there was nothing that could help except time.

Right I’m a mum of 2 and both my daughters have had this horrible infection. You have to squeeze each one, if they are small you can scrap the white centre out it’s like a root and squeeze them a little until they are flat. If you leave the root inside they come back and keep spreading. After each one has been squeezed apply tea tree and they go. If you leave them as I did the first time they lasted 18 months and some were huge and didn’t go until they were popped. Get them whilst they are small, the big ones grow and get bigger and are more sore to pop. We’ve had no scarring now there was some immediately after but all gone now.

I know these posts are from a long time ago. But I just wanted to add my experience of successfully getting rid of moloscums within a couple of month in car it can help others.

I notice a few bumps behind DDs knees. Thought they were bites, put cream on and thought no more of them as they didn't bother her. A couple of weeks later I saw they had spread all the way up both legs. She had a couple on her hands as well. I got advice that there was nothing to be done about it, but with it being the start of summer and she had over 120 on her legs I needed to get rid of them.

I googled around and found a study that had been successful and this is what cleared them up for us in around 4 weeks to being able to have her legs uncovered and around 6 weeks to be completely gone.

You need to apply white iodine followed by neat tea tree oil with a cotton wool pad twice every day. Do a patch test first and stop using if there's irritation though. Be warned iodine on the burst ones willy sting so try to avoid them, perhaps but a more soothing healing cream on them.
The iodine and tea tree makes them go red, burst, or fade and they just disappear. To prevent reinfection from burst ones I had her shower every morning with oatmeal and manuka honey soap and clean towels every day, and wore long pj's clean on every night. I cleaned toilet seats and her chair at school as often as I reasonably could, and changed her PE kit weekly. They all went in just a few weeks. She's left with about 10 small purple scars but I think these will fade soon. She is now able to enjoy all the summer activities without worrying.

I really recommend this approach, there's no need to live with this for months or years, but you do have to be fastidious and stick with it every day. But it's well worth it.

RedK2000 · 13/07/2019 08:25

Further to this I had tried the advice of squeezing but didn't manage to successfully squeeze one! And DD screamed the place down when I tried. Stick to the tea tree oil!
