I'm trying to get some medised down my dd before bed but having joy. I've hidden it in a yoghurt which she's spat out. I know her milk won't mask the taste either.

Taking it off a spoon won't work with her as she insists on tasting it first.

I'm clutching at straws here, are there any other ways?

I take it you haven't got one of those medicine syringes? You can squirt it straight to the back of the throat. Works a treat. Can you get one from somewhere or get to a chemist?

K999 · 31/07/2009 18:00

Syringe? Thats what I use.....

nickschick · 31/07/2009 18:00

You just need sheer determination and a syringe and the reward of something nice to taste after.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 31/07/2009 18:01

i second a syringe and a head held between knees, big tickle and shoot.......

Sparkletastic · 31/07/2009 18:01

I've hidden it in ice cream but my DDs are extremely resistant to taking medicine so I usually have to do it the hard way - i.e. get DD in a head lock and use syringe to squirt at back of tongue. You have my sympathy - I've also had to resort so 'up the bum' paracetamol for DD2 before...

Put something else on the spoon for her to taste first (sugar water?), then, like a magician, swap spoons as someone distracts her.

Sparkletastic · 31/07/2009 18:02

Ah there are a few fellow sufferers that beat me to it!

FabBakerGirlIsBack · 31/07/2009 18:03

Syringe but not to the back of the throat - she might choke/be sick/spit it out.

Poke it to the side of the mouth.

We have got one and that was what dh wanted to do. I just know she hates it, screams bloody murder, gargles and spits as much as she can out and it'll take half an hour to calm her down.

Seeing as you all say the same I'll accept he maybe right this once!

Can't have her waking every half hour like last night, full of snot and coughing.

Just bumping in case anyone has any other ideas? We tried the syringe and it went tits up. She gargled, choked and spat every drop out.

She's fine with other medicine normally but wouldn't even take that after we'd wrestled her with the medised!

Thanks in advance.

I might be remebering this incorrectly but syringe into inside of cheek then blow in her face and she should swallow.

acebaby · 31/07/2009 21:50

try calcold - same stuff, but less revolting (have you ever tried medised?!). Or, if that doesn't work, calpol and piriton separately

I hope your DD feels better soon. DS2 has a stinking cold too, but is too young for medised
