Re my other thread with my 3 year old having a wart (I think it is) on his hand.

He has suggested a freeze it off thing. Would that be okay to use on a 3 year old or should i use something like compound w?

Why would you trust a bunch of anonymous internet users over a pharmacist??

It isn't that, just wanted someone who has used it to advise.

Have spoke to DH now and he has said do whatever the pharmacist said anyway.

Because sometimes mothers do know best - speak from experience etc. My pharmacist couldn't even diagnose a big red ring on my baby groin as ringworm despite me saying he had been in contact with someone with it. She advised sudocream for dry skin. Got nurse to double check when he was in for tonsilitis and she said it was classic ringworm.

Personally I think the over the counter treatments are a waste of time. DH and DS1 both had warts/verrucas at one point or other and we tried Wartner (I think) several times - it didn't work. Quite a lot of the time as long as the wart isn't causing discomfort or pain then it is fine to let it go by itself.

Wartner was used on DS1 for a very stubborn verruca and that didn't work. I had to get some strong cream from the GP. They said it was a very stubborn verruca.

How long do they take to go and are they infectious?

I had 5 on my hand as a kid for months without anyone doing anything.

Having said that, the freeze spray I've got says not suitable for under 4s

They can take a while to go - dh's took over a year but was huge. If it is bothering you both though I would go and see the practice nurse to see if they can suggest something. It is a virus so is contagious in the way that any virus would be afaik.

It isn't bothering him as far as I can tell. DH said it needs to be got rid of.

Piece in the paper saying compound w will get rid, freezing stuff doesn't always work and can take 3 months.

DS3 has a wart in his finger and my GP friend said that over the counter stuff is not worth the money and he is too young for prescription stuff which also can have very severe side effects.

Have you tried using tea tree oil on it. It works a treat on varuccas on children, usually within 2-3 weeks of daily use, so may do the trick in this case. Body Shop sell a little bottle for around £3. Make sure it's the undiluted stuff and don't get it on clothes etc as it stains. HTH>

I took him to our local friendly chemist and he dx a wart. I have a chropodist stone and I just have to wet it and his hand and rub against the wart each day. What joy.
