Bumped head - 2 year old

DD bumped her head - fell over as the train jolted, whacked her head on the partition wall, with my five year old on top of her. Was awful. She cried a lot at the time, but now seems fine, got a slight lump (is on the 'thick' part of her head, to the side, about an inch or two above her ear. Eaten her dinner, doesn't seem bothered (unlike me!). I know the drowsiness is the thing to look out for, but are there any other indicators of problems that I should look out for?

My nearly 10 month old DS fell down the stairs today and I was given a leaflet on head injuries and it says to look out for repeated vomiting, a headache that is not cleared by paracetamol, becoming unusually drowsy, irritable or unsteady, convulsions, or abnormal behaviour.

Hope that helps.

Thanks. Sorry about your DS.

Tried NHS direct but they are very busy. But by the time you get symptoms, is it too late - i.e. damage been done? Or are there early warning signs? Or is that list the early warning list? Am sitting here worrying!

This list says to contact your GP/A&E immediately if any of the above happens. I was just asked if he lost consciousness or if he vomited straight away (both were no in his case) and they said that was good so I guess this list is what comes afterwards.

This leaflet says to keep an eye on them for 48 hours as they may still have symptoms but that you can administer paracetamol regularly and not to let them do too much.

NHS direct would also probably advise you to wake her every couple of hours at night to check she can be roused, if it was a bad bump.

Thanks, that is pretty much what I thought we should do, but pleased to have it confirmed. Will check on her through the night.

Oh my grey hairs!!

I have got half a head of grey hairs after today - my DS is happily playing as normal not knowing what he's put me through!
