First Aid Kit for kids- what should I have?

RinkyDinkyPinky · 22/05/2009 21:59

A friend's DC got stung by a wasp t'other day and I realised I had nothing specifically for it. Used vinegar and DC OK. But it got me thinking about what one may need in-case-of...

So far I have only the usual suspects:-
Calpol, Ibuprofen & teething gel and some arnica cream

SO what would be in a good 1st Aid Kit?

TIA

plasters
calamine aqueous cream
magnesium sulphate
tea tree

a cold gel pack in the freezer for bumps and I swear by "magic spray" a.k.a Savlon spray for cuts and grazes. Ds is totally convinced that he makes him better! Long may that belief hold true!

I love the "magic spray" for cuts. Arnica cream is our magic aid for bimps and bruises at the moment.

Mag sulphate- is that same as "milk of magnesia" I seem to recall it being dosed out for upset tummies when I was a kid.

Great ideas- keep them coming.

Don't think so I mean a paste for drawing out splinters etc

RDP the beauty of the magic spray is that you don't have to actually touch the (obviously horrific and life threatening graze) wound! We have arnica cream too but it rarely sees the light of day now that we have discovered something that means I no longer have to cause ds to increase the pitch of his scream!

tea tree oil
arnica cream
aloe vera gel
plasters
gauze and micropore tape for larger cuts/bad grazes

This lot seems to cover most eventualities

Thanks Paisleyleaf- I'll look up the magnesium sulphate paste. Will prob come in handy with DD2 (aka Dangermouse)

KnickKnack- what do you use the tea tree & the aloe vera for?

Thanks all for suggestions.

Any more First Aid essentials out there??

tea tree...for anything that needs disinfecting (add to the aloe vera for cuts and grazes, on tissues for colds, on pillows for colds/vomiting in bed, ditto floor etc that has been sick on)...and a million other uses

aloe vera gel...any cut, scrape, graze, injury, nettle rash, any rash, any redness, scar, or avoidance of scar...basically anything that requires cream rubbed on!
(also stretch marks, dry skin, wrinkles and lines etc)

aloe vera is brilliant for reducing scars and burns and bruises. We have some that we bought from the vet for horses - same as human but cheaper so comes in a large pot. (we don't share the pot humans/animals have 2 seperate pots)

I also have those sticky stitches...strips that hold a bigger cut together. And have had to use them, also a sling...three of my children have brokentheir arms (two of them within 6 weeks of each other)

I use germoline a lot. Has a local anaesthetic which helps.

It's called 'magic pink cream' in our house.
