Hi

DP took DS (2.5) to Doctor this week. He's had a runny nose for months now with luminous yellow snot in the morning. I didn't want to go to Doctor "just" for a cold, but it seemed to be going on too long.
Anyway, DR agreed it was too long and gave an antibiotic, but also asked for a sample of the yellow snot so they could test it. DP didn't ask / forgot what it was to be tested for, anyone have any ideas?

Well, they could test to see what type of bacteria is growing there but it's yellow-so probably it's the bacteria that causes the mucus to turn yellow-can't remember what it's called-but maybe they test for certain germs as well. We were at the ear, nose and throat DR the other day and he mentioned that the average person produces a quart of mucus a day-most of which goes down their throat-how gross is that-snot swallowing?

Any chance he could have something stuck up his nose? Is it both nostrils or just one?

Just a long shot, but a fried's ds had a horribly snotty nose (just one side) and eventually, they found a small piece of sponge up his nose!

Thanks for responding! It was both nostrils, with yellow snot only in the morning. It was clear the rest of the day, lots of it, but clear.
Has really cleared up a lot since we started the antibiotic
