Pain in foot

Anyone recognise this?

Ds2 (aged 11) complains intermittently of pain in the sole of his heel. Always the same heel, same part of the heel, but the pain does not seem to be related to activity, and there is nothing to be seen on the surface. It is quite a sharp pain from what he says. Sometimes it lasts an hour, sometimes all day, sometimes I think it is better after a much shorter time.

I haven't a clue what could be causing it. He wants to go to the GP but I don't think the GP would make anything of such vague symptoms either. But in case I am wrong, and it is a clearly recognised condition, I thought I would post here.

might seem obvious but check his insole of his shoe. I get this when i have worn a thin bit in my insole of my shoe, it really hurts and pinches. Does he get it with all shoes or just one pair? Try adding a new insole and see if it helps. hth.

Well I thought about his shoes, but he gets the pain at completely random times, not when he is wearing any particular shoes. In fact, orginally, when he first complained about the pain he had been out in the garden bare foot and I brushed it off as something he had trodden on.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS .... google it. Pain in the heal caused by inflammation of soft tissue. My ds aged 12 has recently been dx with it. Really common in active kids and due to over use. He was given a course of ibuprofen and told to rest it .... yeah right ! The doc said it should eventually go but could take up to 6/12 months.

This is the NHS Direct link:

Oh, yeah and for got to mention to buy him some cushioned or gel heal support to put in shoes. Apparently is reduces any impact when walking.

Oh gosh yes that sounds quite like it, only ds2 is not especially active (ie not into sports) and on the website it says the pain is usually worst first thing in the morning. Ds2 says that doesn't fit with his pain.

But there are loads of other conditions mentioned on that site so I am now wondering if a trip to the doc might be in order. Though none of them seem that serious...
