Right, I panicked when I googled DS' symptoms, now I've been to the Dr and tbh still panicking.

Waaaaa

I am the doom and gloom merchant of the family, but DS (3) has one swollen tonsil, lethargy, loss of appetite and seems a little unwell generally. Google that combo and you come up with lymphoma.

Take him to dr today, who looks grave and orders immediate bloods, no more antibiotics and for me to come back asap when the results are out.

I know, I know, I am over reacting.

You probably are but it is every mother's right to be over anxious every now and then. I hope all is well with your LO.

When something similar happened to a friend and her DD's tests did show something bad she heard the same night (the GP came round and knocked on her door just as they were sitting down to tea).

thank you for replying - I'm not looking forward to a week's waiting, so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

If there was bad news then, ime, you would know by now, tomorrow am at the latest.

moodlumthehoodlum · 19/05/2009 22:25

He hasn't had the blood done yet, as it was the last apptmt of the day, so I have to go tomorrow first thing with him.

Am thinking positive.

I had a tonsil bigger then the other for years until I got them to take them out. It was just inflamed. I do get tired alot aswell.

moodlumthehoodlum · 19/05/2009 22:29

Thanks. DH is sure its something boring and un-worrying, but I like to keep the worry levels up in the house by quietly panicking!

I'm pleased I had them taken out, one was so big it was taking up half the space in my throat. Your GP's being careful, it's their job to look for the nasties first. Google is a bad, bad thing.

Marthasmama · 19/05/2009 22:42

Fluffy & Moodlum - I said on your other thread that I had quinsy. Well, my tonsil stayed inflamed and went a really funny shape after I had it. Your ds could also have had glandular fever which makes you ill for weeks afterwards. Here is some information. I hope in this case google will help rather than stress you out. Glandular fever is horrible but not too serious. My brother had it as a teen and managed to do his GCSE exams while he was ill!

Marthasmama · 19/05/2009 22:47

Sorry fluffy - I included you as I was going to say yes, mine closed over my throat too. Such a PITA!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 19/05/2009 22:49

I didn't have qinsy. I had alot of tonsilitis as a child, I had one episode and they just stayed big. They did send the large one off for tests when I had them taken out and it was just inflammation. I also have an enlarged lymph node in my neck that is massive, they never seemed concerned about it so it's been left (I'm talking about 15 years).

Thanks ladies - your messages are reassuring. I think glandular fever is a possibility, deffo, but does that show up in a blood test?

thx ladies

GF does show up in a test, but apparently is one of the tests most notorious for false negatives...I had a weirdy illness (am still convinced it was GF and so is my doctor,) and I never tested positive for it, despite numerous bloods and even being sent to some strange Dr Strangelovey type isolation hospital that looked like they did experiments in germ warfare...
Hope you get some reassuring news soon!
