My LO (16 months) had a nasty cut to the head between his eye brows - looks with Harry Potter now!

It was 2 months ago and needed one small stich. It is still red and slighly dented inwards.

Any ideas how long it will take to heal to at least look pale.

I am gutted about it.

Going by caesarian scars it will go pale, but I can't remember how long that takes. (I have 2 or 3 head/neck scars as well & they are colourless too.)

Not very helpful, sorry but he will probably like it later as it will make him look tough!

DS had a very bad bump and cut on his temple

it has faded and is practically invisible now

i would try bio oil to help with the scarring

it took months rather than weeks but DS has very pale skin

SparkyFartDust · 17/05/2009 19:56

my DD1 had nasty cut on eye brow (fleshy bit) which needed glueing month or so ago. It's still very red.

I asked our chemist if they'd recommend anything to speed recovery, but they said children's skin is very good at self healing, not to worry & give it time.

I know it's not easy to look at but will hopefully fade within a few months.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 17/05/2009 19:56

thanks ladies.
I have used bio oil every night for weeks but it still looks so red - is this normal? Rubyslippers, was your DS scar red for ages?

it will stay red for a couple of months probably - and then fade - but it will show up more if he tans - it will stand out as white. It will gradually fade - but may take a few years to not be noticed at all.

Why are you gutted ?

tryingtobemarypoppins · 17/05/2009 19:57

I know this sounds terrible but every photo I take it just stares back at me! Especailly right between the eye brows!

Have you tried pure Vitamin E oil on it?
There are also special plasters which help reduce scars but may be difficult for your lo to keep on as it is in an awkward place. Any pharmacy would advise you.

Why are you gutted ?

Becuase he was such a beautiful face! He keeps pointing at it and saying ouch!

It takes months for it to fade to white. DS2 has an inch long scar on his forehead from where he head butted a log after tripping over. It needed glueing & seri-strips. It's still visible 3 years on but it's a neat white line and I guess it will continue to fade. He's rather fond of it (he's 8).

DD has a 5mm scar above her eyebrow from headbutting a fireplace when she was 1. This just had seri strip and, 2 years on, is a faint line you can see if you know where you're looking. It's not a problem.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 17/05/2009 20:01

Thanks GentleOtter - I used the anti scar plasters whilst it was healing but he pulled them off in his sleep and I thought it would make it worse with all that pulling!

I remember ages ago a thread about something like this and someone got a cream on perscription????

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 17/05/2009 20:02

It isn't going to make him any less beautiful. It hasn't affected DS2 in any way. Or DD.

rubyslippers · 17/05/2009 20:02

his scar was red for a few weeks

he was around 20 months and hadn't been walking long IIRC

honestly, you can only see it if yu are looking at it from a certain angle

moonshine · 17/05/2009 20:02

Ds has a very similar-sounding scar, which he got when he ran into the corner of a radiator at c 11 months (resulting in trip to a&e after blood gushed everywhere)but slightly higher in the middle of his forehead. At the time the doctor told us to rub in pure vit e oil every day for several months. It has now faded to white and is permanent but took quite a while to lose its redness.

It's amazing actually how many little boys have scars in the middle of their foreheads - sorry not much compensation but it will fade in time (second the several months as opposed to weeks).

littlerach · 17/05/2009 20:03

Dd1 cut her eyelid quite badly and the scar took a long time ot fade.

That was 5 years ago.
Think it shows upa bit if she is tanne dnow, but that's it.

tryingtobemarypoppins · 17/05/2009 20:04

I think once its white it will be fine, but its just sooooooo red!

Probably because you are making an issue out of this. At that age you can remove the full nose and they will forget about it as soon as they see a new toy. (says she whose child had to be given morphine after an operation, who thought that life was never going to be the same as her child was heavily traumatised....and 3 weeks later the only thing he could remember was the nice toy area at the hospital.

No need to be so precious about it. I battled against eczema for years to avoid him getting full of scars... then he got chicken pox and my work was in vain

throckenholt · 17/05/2009 20:21

there isn't really much to do about it - just let it heal in its own time. He will forget about it soon enough.

Two of my 3 (boys 6 and 8) have similar little scars on their foreheads - I guess many kids do.
