Ds2 had an accident in the garden Monday tea time, he fell off the slide and broke his elbow. I was fully expecting to come home with ds2 in a plaster cast but nope, they admitted him to the kids ward, placed his arm in traction and he will most likely have to remain that way for 3 weeks (will know more after an xray tomorrow).

It has only been 48 hours since his arm went in traction and already he is fed up of being flat on his back. It is quite heartbreaking to see him looking so forlorn. Anyway, he is going to be 5 next month, it's his dominant arm in traction and I am looking for idea's of things he can do one handed with his non dominant hand.

We have taken in plenty of books, stickers, a balloon, bubbles, his old leap pad, portable dvd player.

I feel so useless as ds2 wants me there, but I also have ds1 who is very nearly 8 (homeschooled) and ds3 who is 6 months and exclusively breastfed. I feel like I am being torn in 4 if I include dh into all this. I know it is going to be a very long 3 weeks.

bumping like mad coz i can't think of anything useful that u r not already doing.

Hang in there yourself heartmum! And fingers crossed the xray will come back with good news!

Oh poor wee mite - that is going to be a hard three weeks for all of you.

What about talking storys on CD or even on an Ipod. Finger paints - he could do with his good hand, same with paydough, ben 10 toys he could make story with on his table, tag syste,

If I think of anything else I will post.

Thanks for the bump! I hope things look good tomorrow, if it isn't as they hoped, the only other option is surgery. I am not sure which is worse! Ds has had surgery before and it is awful to go through it, but 3 weeks of lying flat on his back is no picnic either.

I am still contemplating if I should take an axe to the slide, but boys will be boys I think, it could have happened a million different ways I'm sure.

I am going to head to bed now, I don't want anything to think I am ignoring their suggestions!

what about jigsaws? does he like those? you can get those big jigsaw folder things as well, so that if you haven't finished it, you can still put it away half finished and come back to it. Of course, none of this helps if he has to stay on his back the whole time

finger puppets?

So for you - horrible situation but sounds like the best thing for him to heal properly.
