Anyone else got a 10 month old with reflux?

How do you cope with the sick? Our carpets have all got stain marks, and the bed is constantly sickified with milk from the morning bottle. Friends have suggested putting an old towel down, but I don't think they understand that he just pukes as he is crawling along. I suppose I've kind of got used to it now, and try not to take him to other people's houses, which is a shame as he loves other kids but I just don't want him vomiting on other peeps carpets/toys/children. He is not on any meds as doctor says it is not causing him any problems/gaining weight etc.
Just wondered if anyone else in same boat?

No, no. My DS2 had horrific reflux which lasted until he learnt to walk. I vividly remember floating in a pond of sick in my bed on many occasions.

I wouldn't avoid going to friends' houses, just warn them and maybe suggest you stay in the kitchen/be on the lookout to pounce and clear up.

I could usually tell when he was going to do it - it was usually after a big milk feed, the whole lot would just come gushing back up, practically hitting the ceiling.

When they crawl, it becomes worse because their stomachs are being squashed - that's why they say it usually gets better when they learn to walk.

I'd see your GP again - we used Gaviscon in milk feeds to start with, but it wasn't effective, and you can't put it in your boob either, so moved on to Ranitidine, which is a liquid you give to them. That helped quite a lot, but he still did it from time to time.

Thanks dollius - yep we found the same with Gaviscon - the only time it worked was once when we accidentally put too much in the bottle! I've been back to the doc a few times but they refuse to put him on anything else. I guess I just thought it would have gone by now and am imagining him throwing up on people at nursery when we eventually put him in! Anyone know how nurseries deal with the vomiting? Will they take on a child with reflux? Can imagine they would have to spend a lot of time with one child, cleaning up etc.

They will, but I was called a few times by my nursery to come and get him when he was really chucking up, which is not ideal if you need to work.

You do need to get this sorted before you go back to work really. Sounds like your GP is not being sympathetic - mine thankfully took it really seriously and also referred him to a paediatric specialist.

Can you see another GP? Perhaps ask specifically about trying ranitidine. It is definitely more effective than gaviscon. I would really go to town on the symptoms and tell the GP the nursery won't take him and that you have to find a remedy which works.

He has got a paediatrician appointment at the start of June as he has a chronic cough. One of the GPs said this could be due to the reflux, so I will make sure I flag it up with the paeds also. IME the paediatricians always take things more seriously than the GPs.
