Doctor or A& E?

daughter, 3yrs has been vomiting since yesterday (4 times yest, once this morning). no diarrhoea (though lots of pooing - sorry TMI). Totally fine in herself though tired and sleepy.

Rang NHS direct today, and suddenly remembered she banged her face on Sunday - causing a nice purple bruise (only slightly visible now) but didn't think it was that major. She was over it after five mins.

Anyway, by sharing this, the nurse said we should go to A&E. (PITA emoticon. Have 9mth as well and don't drive)

Is this necessary, or is it NHS Direct covering backs? And I can make doctor appointment when they open? What do you think?

Crap. Reading this back, have just thought - if this was anyone else I would say just go.

We should probably just go. Hate wasting A&E time though.

I hope your child is okay but I don't understand the PITA attitude when your child could have a head injury.

MmeLindt · 13/05/2009 08:12

I don't think that the bang on the head has anything to do with the vomiting. As far as I know, if she had a head injury then it is the first 24 hours that you have to watch for vomitting. That would be until Monday and she started vomiting yesterday so is probably unconnected.

Just go to the doc at 11am.

Doctor . There is a bad vomiting bug going round at the moment our school had 50 children off and more sent home on Monday .

Hope she gets well soon.

Because she is sat watching Charlie and Lola, totally fine and now wants to draw a house apparently. So I am really, pretty sure, she hasn't got a head injury.

But you're right. I would think exactly that if I was reading it.

So is she sleepy even after going to bed and sleeping? If so do you as you were advised and go to A&E. The nurse isn't covering her back she is advising you according to the needs of your young daughter.

consorttovix · 13/05/2009 08:15

It's not just the head injury possibility though. She's vomited a lot and is reported as sleepy and tired. Could be dehydrated?

Umlellala · 13/05/2009 08:16

No, she isn't sleepy now. She slept a lot yesterday (but then wasn't ready for bed til 9pm )

Seriously, she is running round asking me to get crayons and being a pony. I wasn't gonna take her to doctors today even , was ringing nhs to check and suddenly remembered her bang on face on sunday (they said 72hrs)... Kids are always banging themselves, aren't they?

Thanks for your comments and not making me feel completely neglectful, think I will just take her to doctor (by the time we get to A&E on the bus would be 10am prob anyway) and see how she goes. Scary though, could a head injury really make a child vomit after 72 hours? Will def mention to doctor.

What happened at the doctors?

Umlellala · 13/05/2009 14:36

Oh, thanks for asking! Yes, she is fine, gastro bug 3-6 days to recover fully prob. Did the typically chirpy, perky at doctors thing. But he checked her out and took me seriously. Am glad I went tbh.
