First vaccinations without whooping cough?

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is anyway of getting the babys first set of vaccinations without having to give the pertussis/whooping cough combined with it?

I know some mums get very emotive about "idiot" mums not vaccinating children so let me explain the family background: My hubbys Aunt was left severely brain damaged by the whooping cough vaccine, it was proven in court to be vaccine damage and they have court documents (a huge componsation payment sitting in a bank) as proof.

I have 7 children (youngest is 9 weeks) and we've never let them have the whooping cough vaccine and its never been a problem as the Diptheria and Tetanus was available seperatly and polio was given in oral form (as was the norm at the time) however my second youngest (5 years) didnt complete the three courses as by the time the 16 week dose was due they had run out of seperate vaccines, they stopped producing them due to cost and because they were bringing in the new combined DTaP/IPV/HIB vaccine. I was advised that he was not fully protected but I couldnt bring myself to allow him to have the combined jab.

Now I'm facing the dilema of what to do with our new baby, single vaccines are just not available. I've been told to try private health care but I've called bupa and they were no help at all. So any ideas?

Are you sure it's the same vaccine? I know they changed the whooping cough vaccine because of adverse reactions a few years ago.

DS had a different set of vax to most kids - he had the new six in one, rather than the five in one. But you can get individual vax - where abouts in the country are you - I would warn you they cost about £60 per vax.

Yeah I understand that the vaccine has been changed but my hubby is still worried about it and wont allow the children to have it.

We're in Cheshire.

There are no vaccines available on NHS that just contain tetanus and diptheria anymore, the smallest combination is tetanus, diptheria and polio but it is not liscensed(sp?) for children under the age of 10 as the it is low dose diptheria so not suitable for primary vaccinations.
This website says that they can access dual antigen diptheria and tetanus from India but they do contain thiomersal
HTH

It's technically private GP services and yes Bupa do it on an individual basis but don't advertise this fact. Otherwise go to your GP and ask for a referral to a private GP practice. Your GP will know someone who can help you.

Incidentally DD reacted to the 5 in 1 but the newer vaccine, the 6 in 1 was fine with DS. Can understand your reticence - I was worried for DS but he was fine.

you deffo don't want the thiomersal.

3boys4girls, have a quick google for richard halvorsens clinic.
i am SURE there is a list on there of all the possibilities, and if you give them a ring they'll be really very helpful.
