It's happened 3 times in the last 2 weeks now at approx 5 day intervals.

First time she was sick at night, then am then got better the next day, fine for a few days eating, drinking etc.

Then last weekend had smelly loose stool, then horrendous breath, the got up in the am x 2 vomit then later on in the day fine again.

Then 2x 2 loose poos over 2 days (not proper diarrhea though) and tonight sick again but in good spirits, complaining of tummy pain and terrible breath, almost faecal.

have called nhs direct and walk in centre on their advce and they've just told me to keep an eye out. In between times she's fine, eating, drinking, normal poos bright, happy lively etc. then this smelly breath runny poo and random vomting. No symptoms in me and dh so surely not a "normal" stomach bug.

Am taking her to gps on Monday but getting v worried she has a real gastric prob/horrible bacterial infection.

Has anyone else experienced this, or knows what it could be? Any advice?

We've ben experiencing something very similar minx - ds is 2 next week, and he got sick first, about 3 weeks ago now. He was only sick at night, about 3 nights in a row, then a night or two off, then back to it again. On and off diarreah. Has been fine for over a week now, but still very runny and smelly poos.
dd2 is 5 and she was ill when he was to start with, just diarreah, fine a few days, then diarreah again.
All fine last week, then this week dd2 and me come down with severe vomiting and diarreah on wednesday. Completely fine thursday. Then dd2 again today, totally wiped out poor thing.

Only ones not affected are dh and dd1. Its driving me crazy. We took ds to gp when he had been ill over a week, they just said tummy bug, nothing to worry about, which I am sure is true. But I have never known a bug to linger this long, be so unpredictable and sporadic, and keep coming and going!!??
It really is weird.
I attacked my house with the dettol spray today just in case!

GP told me a few weeks ago that recurring vomiting could be a symptom of a urinary tract infection. Stopped for my ds2 but is it something worth asking explicitly? I know it's really hard to get urine samples, even using those bags in the nappies for wee boys, so good luck if you have to try.

thanyou for your adice and info v helpful, chatkins I too am ready to start the sterilisation process tomorrow!

She's wee'd a quite a lot today jkklpu, she's potty trained so can get a sample.

Last weekend the day after she vomited she only see'd x 2 in 24 hrs was worried about dehydration but back to normal the next day.

There are various bugs that cause repeated vomiting/diarrhea which will lie dormant in your system between times. I had one last year and it took me 6 months to convince a GP that the bouts (once month were related). So if it persists do go to a GP, and back again if it still doesn't clear.

The bug I had was giardia which is rare in this country. Think I got it from eating out, don't like to think of the implications of how that happened (bleuch emoticon).

WidgetWB · 09/05/2009 12:57

definitely Giardia - without question and not that rare in this country I am afraid. I am not a doctor but have had experience on two occasions, and both times it presented in exactly the same way. Also note it doesn't always show up on the first test at the docs. Its treatable but sort it soon. You will prob all have it. One friend of mine's daughter caught it by sitting by the river and playing in it in Hampshire, the others, who knows - but they hadn't been anywhere to catch it. One of those things. Good luck.

minxofmancunia · 09/05/2009 16:14

thank you so much have googled it and it sounds like that's what it is. Will go to gp on Monday to get it sorted prob is he's v dismissive and will porbably just say wait for it to go away on it's own.

Don't want dd to lose any more weight and I'm pg so really need to get it seen to! Think dd must have caught it from infected dog poo that dh saw on the bottom of her shoe a while back (which he promptly removed).

Sorry but F*king irresponsible dog owners round here, dog poo all over the pavements all the time, makes my BLOOD BOIL!!!

minx - if you think it is giardia you'll (probably) be asked to get a poo sample (taken when she's having a bout). If it comes back negative, but the problem hasn't gone away, then make them keep testing. My first 3 samples were negative, I only kept on cause I'd had it 10 years previously in the tropics and recognised the symptoms (eggy burps from both ends are extremely characteristic and I'd start burping a few hours before the vomiting started - sorry if TMI).

Giardia is simple to treat though [SMILE]
