Taking baby's temperature under the arm

Apologies in advance for the basic question, but I've managed to confuse myself. I have a digital thermometer which I use under DD's arm. She's just under 4 months at the moment. I have a couple of questions about it:

  • I read somewhere that you need to add 0.4 degrees to the temperature if you are taking it under the arm, is this correct?

  • on my thermometer the instructions say to leave it under the arm until the celcius symbol stops flashing, however if I leave it longer it appears the temperature keeps going up? I'm confused as to how long to leave it to ge an accurate reading.

Thanks

If she feels warm/hot to the touch she's got a temperature - if she doesn't she hasn't. Please don't get too caught up in taking temperatures - it's how the child "is" that matters.
