Bruising ointment suitable for 1 year old?

I am trying to find bruising ointment that is suitable to use on a 1 year old. He has just started walking and always manages to fall and bump his head anytime he gets near any corners so I am looking for bruising ointment that is suitable for this age group. Boots said arnica only states suitable for adults although SIL def uses it on their 18 month old so just thought I would get your advice.

Thanks

I think witch hazel ointment/gel is safe for babies, good for cuts and bruises

Is comfrey ointment OK to use? I can't remember if there's anything on our jar at home about age suitability

orangina · 05/05/2009 13:39

comfrey is fine I think. Also arnica ointment....

I'd be surprised if arnica is really only for adults.

I reckon you should try asking someone who knows a bit more about natural remedies than Boots.

I'd start with Baldwins & Co they're really good - 0207 703 5550

As I thought Boots were tslking rubbish.
If you google arnica you'll see lots of places say it's suitable for 3yo+. Maybe ask your Dr if it's OK for our 1yo, next time you're in. (or NHS Direct).

Look Nelson's even do a "kids stick" format of arnica

Arnica Kids Stick

I'd still recommend Baldwins for quality.

Sorry that should have been your 1yo.
I am not making any claim to your child!

Why do you want to put ointment on a bruise?

Will arnica ease pain and help it to heal any quicker?

I've used it myself and am not sure. i just leave bruises do their thing (that's why I'm asking!!)

I've used arnica on both of mine from about 6 months...very gentle, and yes, I think it does reduce time it takes to heal a bruise. I seem to remember its been proven to reduce healing time after surgery, on that basis, but can't remember where I read that!
