sorry no one replied to you
my ds ioyrs had a broken wrist a few months ago
its a half cast they put on the day you first go in to allow for swelling then they go the next day for a permanent one it dries immediatley and is kept on for 4 weeks ,they remove it with a saw like thing that doesnt hurt at all ,ds was concerned!!
had to stay off sports for 3 weeks after it was taken off
still can be achy at time but otherwise using it as normal
sorry you probably know all this now!!!

make sure once the cast is off that your dd doesn't resume normal activities, ie handstands etc (!) until enough time has elapsed. Once it's off, it's too easy for children to think they're back to normal again! I broke my wrist aged 7 and I remember my mother shouting at me to stop doing handstands a couple of days afterwards!!

My DD recently broke her arm and is now a few weeks out of her cast. We bought her a special cover to wear in the bath by a company called limbo and she was able to lay back and relax without worrying her cast would get wet. I would highly reccommend it. You could also use a plastic bag but we found she still had to keep her arm out of the bath so it was not quite so relaxing for her.

My DD 8 yrs broke her right wrist and has a lightweight fibreglass cast on for 4 weeks and then we just remove it at home. She doesn't need to go back to the hospital at all. She broke it on the Wednesday evening and had a temporary cast put on at A & E then we saw a doctor at the fracture clinic the following day who suggested the lightweight cast for her. I kept her off school for 2 days to let her get used to it.

We also use the waterproof cover from Limboproducts.com so she can keep the cast dry in the bath or shower.

i didnt bother with the arm covering,i just strip washed my son standing in the bath then washed his hair over the sink
