Any dentists around

Ds2 had a gum boil/tooth abscess a while ago. Dentist said she would try antibiotics, but they never work and the otherwise healthy tooth would need pulling out . The antibiotics worked OK, and the tooth is fine a year or so later.

Ds1 had exactly the same advice and experience at a different dentist, so it's not just ds2's rather scary dentist who takes this line.

Sooo, ds2 now has another gumboil, but this one is on the top teeth so doesn't hurt at all (the others only hurt when he bit down on the affected area). It just looks like a large swelling.

Is it worth leaving it for a few days before taking it to the dentist, or should we go and get antibiotics straight away - and be sighed at, again! And why do my very healthy eating, sporty boys keep getting gum boils?

The general rule is the longer you leave it, the worse it will get. If he needs antibiotics then it's best to get it looked at sooner rather then later.
