Ok so I have had a couple of threads lately about being pregnant (now overdue, bloody uncomfortable, exhausted and faced with a c-sect on Wed if things don't kick off on their own) Meanwhile backtrack to Friday a week ago and the last day of the holidays here. DS started vomiting on that night and carried on and off until about 5pm Saturday with one episode of diarrhoea thrown in for good measure. Was fine on Sunday, back on food, chirpy etc. DH started on Sunday night with vomiting and diarrhoea. Kept ds off on Monday to make sure but he was fine, dh was vomiting and crapping like nobodys business and I am running around disinfecting everything and trying not to get it myself. Ds fine Tues,Wed and then is sick twice early hours of Thursday (Dh sick right through)Kept him off Thursday but no other sign that he is still ill. DS fine friday and saturday (dh still sick) DH and DS go to doctor on Friday who says to keep doing what we are doing and if DH is still ill MOnday to return, everyone thinks DS is over it. DS and Dh fine Sunday and now here we are in the wee hours of Monday, DS has had 3 bouts of diarrhoea during the day and has been sick at 2am and 4 am this morning. What the hell is this, I have my preadmission tomorrow but can't take him into hospital if he still has a bug but can't send him into childcare either!! What if baby gets it??? Am on absolute last resources of coping right now, feel I am on brink of despair to be honest.

What is it that you need help with practically?

yawningmonster · 04/05/2009 17:32

Is this usual for a tummy bug? Could it be something else? How do we get rid of it once and for all, am disinfecting, washing linen and clothing on hot wash, hand washing with a vengence, trying to keep bland diet.

Oh, you are having a terrible time. I'd be in a heap on the floor sobbing into my marigolds.

Firstly, you need a break if you can get it. Family close by at all? A friend who can look after DS for a few hours?

yawningmonster · 04/05/2009 17:41

Sycamoretree I do have childcare but can't send him if he has tummybug. Closest family is 3 hours away and while they are primed to come when the baby is born they are on a farm and it takes quite a bit of organising to up and leave it plus I don't really want to expose them to the bug as they are going to be the ones to get me through early on after c-sect. I keep thinking it is finally over and he is better but it is the first time he has ever had diarrhoea and vomiting and first time in almost a decade it has hit dh so I can't really remember what to expect.

bump please, is there anything else I can do to get rid of this. Ds is not too unwell in himself but I have preadmission tomorrow at the hospital but can't take him and can't leave him and need dh can't take any more time off as very soon will have 5 days paternity hot on the heels of 5 days sick leave last week. I should at least look on the bright side that I haven't had the bug now that would be dire.

Sorry not much help but have you phoned NHS direct maybe they may have some advice.

Sounds like a very nasty bug.

yawningmonster · 04/05/2009 18:23

Not in UK so don't have NHS but we were at doctor on Friday and will now try for another appointment tomorrow thanks for responding.

Hope they are better soon. You take care of yourself.

SlightlyMadSwineFlu · 04/05/2009 18:58

What are your DS and DH doing regarding food? Tummy bugs tend to go quicker if the sufferer is starved and then reintroduce bland (dryish toast in this house) slowly.

myfeethurt · 04/05/2009 19:00

it's quite common for these bugs to lurk around and make a re appearance after 48 hour of being OK. Cut out any milk or dairy for 3 days.
