Itchy bum - what else (besides worms) could it be

DD is complaining of itchiness. I can't see anything to suggest worms (tho' I have only ever seen cats with worms before so am not too experienced ). Are there any other common childhood complaints that lead to itchy bum or should I get myself off to the late night pharmacy for worm zapper meds (OTC??) and start blitzing the towels and sheets?

thrush, allergic reaction to wipes/loo paper/washing powder (have you changed it?) etc, or other less common things like lichen sclerosis (unlikely).

I'd try worming first and foremost, personally - its the most likely, and there is nothing to see IME. You can try checking her bum an hour or so after she goes to sleep, with a torch!

Is it only/predominantly in the evening/at night?

I so it is almost certainly worms. No need to rush out tonight though...it will wait until tomorrow. Don't forget to treat whole family.

Ds occasionaly gets an itchy bum when he does not wipe well enough after a poo.

Sudocrem seems to help.

No - she has been complaining of it all day. No changes in bumcontact stuff - powder, wipes etc.

It could be wind. Not sure how old your DD is, put i have a six year old DS and when he complains of this i sit him on the toliet for a while and that seem to work.
