double vision - should I worry about this?

Only seemed to last a few seconds but tonight ds freaked me out a little by asking 'Where's the other mummy gone?' - I'd gone into his room and just closed the curtains better as he'd been calling out that they weren't closed properly. He was looking around in a bemused way and said 'Two mummies!' a couple of times - I turned the light on and noticed he looked a bit cross-eyed. But then I got him to touch the top of my finger in front of his face which he did with no problem and counted his toys etc... He's never had any vision problems before.

Do you think he's just learned to go cross-eyed (he thought it was pretty funny seeing two of me) or is this something I should worry about?

One of DS's friends started having this and it turned out he is long sighted. I'd look into it further - depending on his age take him to an optician, or go to see health visitor or GP to get him referred to the eye doctors.

I am very short sighted and so am very alert to any potential need for DS or DD to need glasses (so far they are fine).

Most dcs are long sighted - but then as their face changes shape and the bone structure firms up the eyeball can also change shape revealing vision problems that weren't there before.

My two dcs had astigmatisms and in one of these this led to double vision - but I didn't realise that was what it was for ages!

Go to an optician who is an optometrist and deals with children to get his vison tested asap. They may suggest a referral to hospital consultant too.

The hospital eye consultant told me the fact that my dc was long sighted to a different degree in both eyes caused the cross eyes/double vison.

One wears glsses now and one doesn't!

Thanks, that's helpful, I will do.
