Seretide - any experiences?

Hi all,

Ds2 (5) has been moved onto Seretide to try to get on top of his virus-triggered asthma. He's already on Singulair every night and Ventolin as needed.

Anyone else's dcs on this and is there anything we should look out for in terms of reactions?

TIA!

Is that the purple one?

If so ds is on this and it is so much better for him than the brown one.

He was put on it last feb after he got quite bad and was put on steroids.

He's hardly needed his ventolin atall since then. One occasion I can think of , last oct.

SchrodingersCat · 29/04/2009 10:02

I cant help you with child related use but since I went onto seretide my ventolin usage has dropped dramatically. It is fabulous.

Ds was 5 when he got his aswell.

Weblette, as it is virus related, have the checked your DS's specific antibodys.

DS1 had his checked and they were non existant - since then he has had all his immunisations again, plus the adult pnumo one too and we have had no attaks - touch wood

He's under paediatrician care and that hasn't been suggested MadHouse although he has just had all his routine boosters. I'll mention it at the next appointment. Thanks!

Every respiratory virus he gets, no matter how small, triggers acute respiratory distress which will only shift with prednisolone - he's coming out of an attack now and this is course #3 for this year

It's good to hear that Seretide has helped, frankly we'll try anything.

Not really relevant as DD is only on salbutamol ATM, but Seretide has been fantastic for me. Before that I was on salbutamol and Becatide, which was OK in the good times, but I used to get so many chest infections, and each one would trigger quite major attacks. Since I have been on Seretide I have had colds, but they have never developed into chest infections, and I have only replaced my salbutamol inhalers when they were out of date - I literally cannot remember the last time I had to use one.

alibobins · 29/04/2009 10:49

Ds has been on seritide for about a year now and it has helped but not has dramatic as others have said ds has had 3 courses of pred as well this year one of them being for 10 days.
Ds started on seritide 50 two puffs twice a day and was put on seritide 125 at the start of winter.
Ds has to be monitored closely for height and weight but is growing well.
Ds has got quite brittle asthma which is difficult to treat so fingers crossed this helps your little one

Weblette sounds so much like DS1. They names it esposodic transient wheeze

Any virus wwnt straight to his chest resulting in pred, numerous hospital visit inc respirators on a number of occasions. This has made such a massive difference for us.

We went down the montelucast and tablet, inhauler route, even numerous tests for CF too. This was the last option before MRI's and genetic testing

weblette · 29/04/2009 15:14

We think it was triggered by bronchiolitis at 1 week old. The one good thing is that the paed reckons he'll grow out it eventually.

So good to hear your ds has improved MH!
