How hard does a blow to the head have to be before I need to worry?

Please help a persistent worrier, although I haven't had a PFB episode for a while.

DS fell off his trike onto a wooden floor, apparently flat on his face . He seemed fine and DH didn't think much of it as the inevitable crying quickly calmed down. But later on DH noticed a bruise and a lump on DS's forehead.

Given that there's a lump do I need to worry? DS did complain of a headache for a while this evening, but this was in the context of a very common fight about going to sleep. I don't know whether to worry or whether to assume he's picked up on my anxiety and is playing on it (I suspect the latter).

So, would you ring NHS24/take to out of hours GP/take to A&E/watch and wait?

I think you only have to worry if he vomits or passes out or gets really sleepy for no other reason, a lump is so much better out than in.

Yes, those were my thoughts as well. I've a feelng I won't sleep too well tonight though.

my ds fell down the stairs and had a HUGE lump on his head. took him to a&e and they said it's better at the front than the back as there is more protection. Also to expect him to sleep more for a few days.

He seems fine. Thanks for your replies.
