Baby with tonsillitis keeps throwing up - will he get dehydrated?

I took DS to hospital yesterday as he had a temp, was very sleepy etc. and he was diagnosed with tonsillitis. He didn't feed much yesterday and last night he fed for 2 hours but threw it up with alot of force. The same happened this morning (feeding less but still threw up). It didn't seem like a normal baby being sick, his stomach was heaving the way it does when I am sick and nothing coming up etc. and he was sort of gagging.

Did they say whether the tonsilitus was viral or bacterial - if it is bacterial you will have antibiotics and he will need to keep those down to get better.

God I feel for you - we finally had DSs tonsils out last week after years of fighting to get the removed!

Poor you - DD had tonsilitis and threw up loads. The GP said to keep offering her sips of water throughout the day, as a big feed would come straight back up. I would DEF ring your GP though - especially if he is throwing the antibiotics back up.

He has liquid penicillin - I am sure it's bacterial as they said they mentioned something to do with bacteria (in his throat) He just threw up a little bit of his dose but kept down the calpol - I am just worried because he is just staying hot, and now his wee smells strong but I dashed to A & E yesterday... his soft spot isn't dipped, if anything it's raised - it drops when dehydrated, doesn't it? :-\

I would ring your GP, just to be on the safe side. You don't want the poor little scrap to get dehydrated. Will he drink water from a sippy cup?

He may do, he hasn't tried yet (8m) - would that be better than breastmilk for hydration?

Ring the doctor as he needs to keep the antibiotics down to kill the bacteria and try to gove him water - even off a spoon or a medicine syringe if needs be.

You can get rehydrant stuff for kids but I am not sure if you can give them to babies that young - maybe check that with the doctor.
