What can I expect? I am strangely excited given he hasn't seen an HV since he was about 8 weeks old ...

I know I'm ruining the anticipation but I want to know really if I need to give him a bath as he's got felt pen on his toes

Is there a 2 year check up?

spicemonster · 27/04/2009 20:37

There is where I live! Isn't it a national thing?

Dunno. We saw a HV fairly regularly first few months. She had an 8 month check, and since then has had a few weigh ins but nothing else. Last weigh in was at 17 or 18 months I think, she's now 22 months.

I got a letter wishing him a happy birthday and asking me to bring him for a check up. But then he didn't go for an 8 month one. Perhaps they do this to check you're all still alive ...

When DD1 had hers she had to stack blocks, do a puzzle, draw some lines on paper, put objects under, ontop etc. She ran, jumped was weighed and measured. She performed really well but then bit a crayon and the health visitor had to find her a glass of water to wash her mouth out with
I'm sure he doesn't need a bath before he goes

They don't do formal checks round here any longer but lots of the HV like to catch up at two.

They ask about things like potty training, as in "what are thinking of doing and when?" rather than "why is your two year old still in nappies?" Some HVs seem obsessed about where babies sleep and a some of my friends were given little lectures about their two year olds still being in cots. Like, er, if they're sleeping what's the problem about where? Same HV also not keen on co-sleeping so much mirth amongst my friends as nearly all the two year olds were either co-sleeping or in cots. None of us could do it right!

My HV weighed and measured my boys, mostly for information. They asked about diet and eating habits.

I think you might get a bookstart pack .

you should get a bookstart pack

spicemonster · 27/04/2009 21:50

Ooh a bookstart pack! Aces

Oh well, he's still in nappies, still in a cot (if not sleeping with me) and still has milk in a bottle morning and night. HVs, do your worst!

A bottle? At night? Sucks teeth in HVish way . I would just say "yes, he's getting plenty of calcium!"

suwoo · 28/04/2009 12:49

I told HV that DS has a bottle in the night and she was oviously horrified. I said I would stop it when he was ready.

He came tripping in with silver heels, 3 glittery hairbands and a face full of eyeshadow, HV said I needed to get him out of that . I just nodded politely and told her to fuck off inside my head.

There was cake and strawberries and he got books and a toothbrush! It was quite nice apart from one vile kid who went around the room snatching all the toys off all the other children while his mother chatted away, oblivious ...

I got his library card which was the best bit

No one said that milk in a bottle was bad, as long as I brush his teeth after
