DD is 11 months old. Not eaten anything different over the past week. Drinking plenty of water with every meal. Eating fine.

Just hasn't done a poo for 3 days.

Only thing that's out of the ordinary is she's teething - just cut 3 new teeth and another 3 are imminent. But I thought teething was more likely to make their tummies runny.

This evening we did bicycling of her legs, got her crawling around as much as poss, gave her a warm bath and gently rubbed her tummy with baby oil.

Nothing.

When should we worry and what can we do to stop it being a monster painful poo when it comes??

I always gave my kids a small amount of fresh orange juice in this situaton..very small but it always always worked, good luck

Interesting. I haven't given her any orange at all - thought you were supposed to avoid citrus for the first year. Maybe that's why!

Friend had same problem and was told to use brown sugar (white if no brown) in water in bottle, It has done the trick

MrsHappy · 26/04/2009 21:21

Does she seem uncomfortable?
When my DD hasn't been for a bit she gets dried apricots for a snack. They always do the trick.

Special unblocking mix
Stewed apples, pears, with dried apricots, dried prunes added into the mix. Doesn't need any sugar, I usually stew the fruit in apple juice and water. DD loves it, and always produces the desired effect.

Cheers! I will try the special unblocking mix tomorrow!

Was thinking along these lines but thought maybe whatever is blocking her up would just act like a plug with all the special unblocking stuff backing up behind... and result in unholy poo spectacular.

Poor little monkey. I suspect there's going to be some tears before this is over

I second the orange juice...

btw - my son is 4 and since he was born can go up to 10 days between poos and he is totally fine so don't worry too much... as long as DD seems fine in herself.

Good luck!

ElmMum · 26/04/2009 21:37

Thanks all. She does seem fine (other than the fact she's teething, so bit out of sorts generally). It's just it's never happened before. She always does at least one poo a day, if not more, so thought it must 'mean' something, IYKWIM.

DS2 has only ever gone every 3 days and he is 7 now. It is just how he is.
