Can Hand, Foot & Mouth start on bottom?

Ds2 has been in contact with someone with H,F&M (he drank from her cup on Monday, she had spots on her hands on Tuesday) and tonight I noticed his bottom is rather spotty.

Now, the reason I ask is because a friend's ds had a really spotty rash, mainly on nappy area, thighs, tummy etc (not on hands, feet or mouth at all really) and her doc said it was H,F&M. At the time we but now this other child has it, maybe my friend's ds had it after all.

Does that make any sense?

Hand Foot& Mouth usually spots/blisters appear 4-5days after infection.HF&M common viral infection caused by coxsackie type A virus.

when you say spotty rash, could it be chickenpox?

HFM can show on bum yes.it is pretty common in children, not a big deal

Thanks, norks, maybe it is

Friend's ds was definitely not chicken pox, more rashy IYSWIM.

Will have to wait and look at ds in the morning. Hopefully he is just having a bad bottom day

We've had it twice (possibly - was diagnosed twice, could be a related virus) and didn't affect bum either time. First time, spots were all in mouth and down throat (DS had a killer sore throat, didn't eat and hardly drank anything for days), second time he had spots on his fingers and toes, and some in mouth and on tongue. Both times, he had a very high temp (40.1, the worst it's ever been) and obviously felt absolutely rotten, so I wouldn't say it's no big deal! But I know it can vary between children.

Have been told it's one of many related viruses which can look similar, so perhaps it's something else that favours the bum?

Can definately be a bottom element - especially where they are in nappies.

Don't know the order of appearance though (or if there is a defined order of appearance)

Just had a quick google and in younger children it does seem to very often be on the bottom.

Maybe it should be called Hand, Foot, and Bottom disease?

I'll let you know in th morning.

Still a bit spotty on bottom (actuallt more tops of thighsand down back legs.

Has mild temp but isn'tunwell at all. Not completely sure it is HFM but keep on having to remind myself that we can't really go any where where there may be other children.

DD had spots on bottom, thighs, feet and hands, not a thing on her face.
I have friends whose DC, were quite poorly with it, loads of spots/ulcers in the mouth

Reckon it is HFM. SPotty on arms and says his mouth is sore - looks a bit spotty from what I can see.

DS2 had it in the nappy area when he had it at around 2 -also on feet, hands and a few in the mouth. He wasn't that unwell TBH, was still OK to drink, just not very hungry.
