DS had a dry nappy this morning - should I be worried?

DS is 14 weeks old and has had a bit of a cold the past few days. I put a nappy on after his bath last night at 7.30 and when he woke this morning at 5am, it was dry. He is 14lb 10 at last weigh-in (2 weeks ago) and drinks around 30-35oz formula per day. Thing is, he takes all his feeds during the day and has been sleeping through since 6 weeks. I don't like to wake him at night to feed him or give him water, but am worried by the dry nappy. Should I give him water inbetween feeds during the day? (which he hates btw) Or should I add water to his bottle (he is on the aptamil cartons). Overall, should I be worried by a dry nappy? Thanks

Are there any other signs of dehydration? Gently pinch his skin on his belly and it should ping back instantly if hydrated. Does he seem alert and his normal self?

It was rather warm yesterday, was he out in the sun much? You could try him with a little water inbetween feeds but at this age you don't want to risk filling him up on water to the detriment of his feeds. Mind you, you say he doesn't like water so it's unlikely this would happen.

My DS never wakes up with a dry nappy but then again he has never gone through the night without a feed so it's different.

Hopefully someone will post who's DC goes through the night without a feed so they can reassure you.

Thanks Supercherry, I was thinking of maybe adding 20ml to his feeds to get around him hating water. He goes so long at night without a feed but everyone says not to wake him. He's had a dirty nappy now which was quite heavy with wee too.

Apart from 10 minutes in the garden, I didn't take him out yesterday. He has been pretty bright though during his cold, not too grizzly.

I also think he could be teething. I have spotted`some very small white spots in his lower middle gums and he's had all the usual signs, drooling, chewing on fingers etc.

Well if he's just had a dirty, wet nappy he's not dehydrated so I would just keep doing what you're doing. It's fantastic that he's sleeping through.

I probably wouldn't add water to his feeds but just keep offering the odd drop of water on warm days from a cup. If he's having 30-35oz of feeds a day then he's getting alot of water from that already.

I do find that if I change my 11 wo after he's weed... he can be dry at next feed (overnight was 8pm until 5am... until this week.. grr) - wasn't worried by that though- he is fine and healthy.

Thanks Supercherry and PeachPear. DS has since had another dirty and wet nappy so am probably worrying over nothing. Offered him some water again and despite it being same temp as his milk, as soon as he's worked out that it isn't milk, he doesn't want to know.
